WEEKEND CREATIVITY…..NOT QUITE For the last several weekends I have been using 6” brushes rather than watercolours and pens. So that has to a large extent put paid to me sharing what I create each weekend. That said I have managed to squeeze in some creativity and this view of NorthLink Ferries’ MS Hamnavoe leaving Stromness and the inlet she is named after is one such example. I have been in Stromness a fair bit recently and I loved the way you could see the ship down pends, alleys, and slipways between the buildings adding a fresh dimension to the town’s rich townscape and emphasising its links to the sea. This is one such vantage point seen from the old RNLI station which is now the Red Shed chandlers. The whole scene was hand drawn, the ferry was drawn very large so I could capture detail, and I then scanned the parts and brought them together in the Sketchbook App on my XPPen Europe Drawing Pad. I then tackled the subject rather like a screen print with different layered separations and also scanned in areas of real watercolour to provide added texture and depth. My interest in the ship has meant that I have created so far 4 scenes like this which I have posted in the comments if you want to see them and I was watching a video last night of the harbour area from the inter island ferry it Hoy which I think will inspire some other views featuring the Hamnavoe and Stromness. As ever I hope you like it and find the story behind it and how I have created it interesting. Have you watched the ship depart from this vantage point? Which of the four views do you prefer?
