Technology has always excited me, the possibilities are endless. However, we all feel threatened by something new and AI is not different. I feel we need to take control, start thinking outside of the box and embrace this new technology, be creative as we have always been, allowing ourselves to build a new dimension of content creation, which is both exciting and scary. Our industry is so passionate, creative, powerful and progressive, Sora will be a super-tool for all the creatives out there to implement something different. Don’t be scared of the technological changes, embrace them and you might just find the next best thing… “Sora is at its most powerful when you’re not replicating the old but bringing to life new and impossible ideas we would have otherwise never had the opportunity to see. Paul Trillo, Director While we have many improvements to make to Sora, we're already getting a glimpse of how the model can help creatives bring ideas to reality. As great as Sora is at generating things that appear real - what excites us is its ability to make things that are totally surreal. shy kids An interesting perspective and I’m very excited to see where this goes as a creative tool” #sora #ai #film #entertainment #openai #creativetool

Sora's technical achievement and creative potential amaze me! It’s been great to watch their initial showcased videos from a technical perspective, but now we get to see how artists can harness this power and blend the creative with the technical. This is just a first glimpse of what AI-powered video creation can do, and it's mind-boggling to think about how transformative it could be for artists of all kinds. Visualizing any concept instantly and iterating on ideas with no limits is a game changer! I can't wait to see what innovative work is produced as tools like Sora evolve and advance. “Air Head” was my favorite. What are your thoughts on the creative potential of AI video generation? #AIVideo #Sora #CreativeTechnology #Innovation #FutureOfArt #DigitalArt

https://lnkd.in/eERQ789t Some more Sora content from #openai. There are two things that standout to me. First, the detail here is still very good, but what remains to be seen is the level of control a "creator" will have over adjusting outputs. In my experience, brands will want complete control (change the color here, the angle there, etc.) and that level will be needed for this to truly displace live action filming on a massive scale. For artists and creators though, this is an actual game-changer. Second, what kind of compute is going to be needed to run this model, and how much are users going to be charged? We've heard Open AI is seeking a $7 trillion investment to build compute infrastructure, and obviously they're going to look to monetize Sora somehow. Could this end up being more expensive than we realize? I'm excited for this but until we know more details live-production isn't going anywhere. #genai #production #video #isthisreadyforprimetime

If you have not seen them yet the new SORA video collaborations are worth checking out - some of them are really interesting. According to open AI: "Since we introduced Sora to the world last month, we’ve been working with visual artists, designers, creative directors and filmmakers to learn how Sora might aid in their creative process." We are clearly at the beginning of this journey but personally I find it exciting to have a potential new tool in the toolbox... #ai #vfx #mediaandentertainment

New on the OpenAI blog: "Sora: First Impressions," a collection of Sora-generated videos produced by some of the creators who OpenAI seeded with early versions of Sora. Each is impressive in its own way, but by far the best is "Air Head," by shy kids, a Toronto-based multimedia production house. It has surprise, wit, story, and the kind of visual effects that only great gen AI (or expensive, time-consuming VFX) can produce. Of Sora, the company writes, "As great as Sora is at generating things that appear real - what excites us is its ability to make things that are totally surreal." I love that. The latest Sora videos are out. Watching them, I feel the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. There's an invisible hand moving across the landscape. A distinct curation is at work, and I can't tell if it's human or not. The received wisdom in the creative community, if one were to believe the braying crowds, is that AI is extractive, exploitative and going to take away your jobs. This collection plays counterpoint to that, highlighting the tool's creative potential. Like a passive-aggressive response to the Luddites, the message reads loud and clear "we're not ripping you off; we're EMPOWERING you." That tone of voice... it feels familiar. GPT...5? Is that you? That said, I like it. In theory. I'm 100% down to muddy my boots in the uncanny valley. My only concern with this stuff is that it's TOO curated. When we serve prompts, will artists self-censor, to avoid blacklisting by the great judge server in the sky? We already do. Sora means "sky" in Japanese, and it's play on "the sky's the limit", to be sure. But who owns the sky? And who sets the limit?

As a follow-up to yesterday, here is some initial feedback from filmmakers about OpenAI's Sora. Paul Trillo's quote is probably a good summary: “Working with Sora is the first time I’ve felt unchained as a filmmaker,” The conversation so far is about the restriction to creativity being lifted from the filmmaking community. In this case, it is a short-form video, which makes sense because Sora is currently only capable of creating short clips that can be edited together into something. The conversation is an interesting starting point, but so many other topics need to be discussed. The impact on current film production needs a deeper conversation. Another issue is the intellectual property that is used to train these models. The other quote from Paul brings up this important issue: “Not restricted by time, money, other people’s permission, I can ideate and experiment in bold and exciting ways.” The elimination of copyright and intellectual property rights using AI generation seems creatively liberating until you realize that this AI model needs to be trained on original material. When Mira Murati, OpenAI's CTO, was asked where the videos to train the model were sourced, she said she thought they were publicly available but wasn't confident about that. This is a larger ethical issue, considering the countless hours and years of video created in traditional ways and published on the internet. It now serves as training data for new content without attribution or compensation. #openai #sora #AI #futureofhollywood https://lnkd.in/gqDaBgrm

Beyond imagination 💭 Some use cases of Sora outputs 🤯 The arrival of AI video models like Sora is predicted to bring a significant transformation to the video industry. It will have positive impact and challenges too: Positive Impact - Increased Efficiency and Accessibility - Faster Production - Enhanced Creativity and Storytelling - New Visual Effects - Focus on Direction vs technical aspects Potential Challenges: - Over-reliance on AI: There's a risk of video content becoming homogenized if creators rely too heavily on AI-generated elements. - Job displacement: Some video editing and production jobs might be affected as AI automates tasks. - Ethical Considerations: Deepfakes and other manipulated content generated by AI could pose ethical concerns and may have performance impact due to lack of real emotions. With all of this, AI video models will revolutionize the video industry, offering exciting new possibilities for creators. Exciting times ahead!

𝐈𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: This probably is the best evidence of putting something significant out in the open, and seeking feedback to make it better. 𝘈𝘴 𝘐 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘣𝘭𝘰𝘨 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘵, 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 '𝘚𝘰𝘭𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘯𝘦, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦'. When OpenAI showcased early preview of Sora, they made it evident that they are sharing early progress of their research with an intent to give public a sense of AI capabilities that are on the horizon. This is a niche area and hence seeking feedback from the real personas (visual artists, designers, creative directors and filmmakers) is critical to evolve this model and make it relevant in the overall creative process.
