Happy Fourth of July to my American followers! 🇺🇸 Having had the privilege of working closely with Americans throughout my career, I want to reflect today on some of the core values that I associate with my American colleagues. These are values that we work to build into the Sentra culture and values that matter to security professionals of all nationalities. 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲: Honesty is everything in cybersecurity. Not merely because reputation depends on it, but because being straight with our clients and partners is the right thing to do. America was founded by standing on principle, making it maybe the most American of values. To quote Emerson, “A little integrity is better than any career”. 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲: Missouri is called the “Show Me” state, a reflection of their skepticism of big claims with no evidence. Being transparent, showing real results and delivering on promises isn’t just a core value for cybersecurity vendors, it’s a good rule for life. 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: US Navy Admiral Hyman Rickover once said that it is the “business of little minds” to shrink from responsibility. Security professionals accept tremendous responsibility in their roles, and as a trusted partner we proudly shoulder this responsibility with them. Happy Independence Day!

It's time to give the U.S. Coast Guard a shout out! 👍🏼🛥🇺🇸 I just had the highest honor spending the day w/ the USCG Pacific Area, speaking with Vice Admiral A.J. Tiongson and his remarkable team. Often under-appreciated and definitely under-funded, here are some amazing things I learned about the USCG: 🌊 - USCG is roughly the size of the #NYPD (~40K people), but covers global responsibilities and so many dynamic challenges, incl. ones you didn’t realize (like #cyber and #climate). 💻 - USCG is exploring frontier tech like #ArtificialIntelligence (e.g. for use cases like iceberg detection) but is also ahead of the game in some tech areas (e.g. using sophisticated modeling for Search and Rescue). 🤝 - USCG builds deep and meaningful partnerships (friendships really) with international peers. This is unlike many other maritime powers, who often rely on more transactional formats (e.g. create debtor/lender relationships). Recruitment and retention are issues across government. One of the greatest things CHDS does is help our graduates implement their research. Major David Dillon Mathies (Emergence Program Cohort 2301) is ready to recruit more members: not just as a Recruiting Company Commander for the Louisiana National Guard (LANG), but also for the Center for Homeland Defense and Security’s Emergence Program. He hopes that by sharing his experience and implementing his Change Initiative, more members of his organization will become interested in the program. His Change Initiative, “Rapid Response: Creating Efficiency Between Tactical and Strategic-Level Communications,” focuses on refining their Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) utilized in an All-Hazard Response scenario.

Consistency is important. Our defense industrial base is critical to not only delivering capability for national security, but also supports our allies and partners. But our industrial base faces numerous challenges. One the biggest is a lack of consistency. Consistent and predictable budgets fund consistent contracts. A lack of consistency drives down trust and increases costs. But this isn’t just about dollars and bullets and gear. Lack of consistency is a direct threat to the workforce and harms industry’s ability to train and retain skilled talent. As we seek to modernize the joint force, build warfighting advantage, and support our allies and partners, we need to build capacity within our biggest strength - our skilled, innovative, and dedicated workforce.
