Every May, the Administration for Community Living leads the nation’s observance of Older Americans Month (OAM). The 2023 theme is Aging Unbound, which offers an opportunity to explore diverse aging experiences and discuss how communities can combat stereotypes. Senior adults can take steps to stay healthy and active as they get older (https://lnkd.in/g6m5KhSe). It’s important for senior adults to: Keep their bodies and minds active. Choose healthy foods. Talk to their doctors about any health concerns they have. Take steps to prevent falls. Stay safe while driving. Be socially active. Get help with financial decisions. Enroll in Medicare and choose a good plan. Seniors often struggle as they age to maintain a good quality of life due to less income and more health related issues. It's an advantage to have a caregiver or someone who can assist with helping older adults navigate life. Sooner or later, if you live long enough, you'll be there one day, too. Something new to think about.... By 2030, one in five Americans will be age 65 or older. Many countries have begun to develop national aging plans to support the health and wellbeing of their seniors. In the US, there are pockets of good planning at the local and state levels, but no comprehensive approach. We should start to think about our needs and prepare for them. Four key goals that should guide the development of a national aging plan are: Goal 1: Promote healthy living and access to affordable, high-quality health care Goal 2: Support family caregivers and ensure access to affordable, high-quality long-term services and supports (LTSS) that maximizes the dignity, independence, and protection of older adults Goal 3: Provide ample opportunities to generate, save, and preserve financial resources Goal 4: Create age-friendly, livable communities that enable people to age in place, and continue as engaged members of their communities It's important to raise awareness of planning that is necessary for our growing senior population.

Given the sheer number of individuals—nearly 11,500 Americans will turn age 65 each day this year and through 2029, with an increasing likelihood to live additional decades—coupled with the rising cost of administering programs, it is simply not possible to meet the need at prior Older Americans Act (OAA) funding levels. We must increase funding levels in the OAA authorization to meet the real need—at a minimum doubling current funding levels. Older Americans Month, celebrated each May, is a reminder that everyone deserves to live well and age with dignity. At Patina, we feel so strongly about it that we’ve made it our mission to profoundly improve the health and aging experience for people 65 and older. Primary care should be about taking the time to listen and understand patients’ concerns, establishing trust and providing care based on someone’s unique goals, values and preferences. Read about the impact, both large and small, we have on patients every day – all in pursuit of helping older adults live and age well: https://lnkd.in/eNjFAMHC

Knowing that most Seniors would prefer to stay in their own home or simply “age-in-place” for as long as possible, we are all working tirelessly to ensure solutions to address this matter. Our experience helps us to identify age-related conditions that can make living at home increasingly more difficult. Our mission has always been to deliver comfort, convenience, and peace of mind to ensure that the Senior Care services we offer can add a strong measure of control to those that desire to remain at home but have conditions that may limit their ability to move freely, communicate effectively, have challenges of cognitive decline or otherwise navigate their environment which can make living at home very difficult. There has never been a better time to serve our most vulnerable Older Adults. We have faced great health care challenges in an ever-growing aging demographic. The uncertainty and turmoil have given us an incredible opportunity to work together to offer guidance that Seniors can depend on. By blending our services, we can guide and allow our clients/patients the opportunity and peace of mind to remain in their community. Partnering is redefining independent living for our Seniors. Blending our services is a Win--Win for those we serve and their loved ones.

Each May, the Administration for Community Living leads the nation’s observance of Older Americans Month. It’s a time to recognize older Americans’ contributions, highlight aging trends and reaffirm commitments to serving the older adults in our community. Many older Americans remain independent and thrive in their own homes, but sometimes they need a little extra support because of social isolation, potential health risks or limited access to essential services, for example. The National Council on Aging has released a guide at https://lnkd.in/gX3Xf-GN that can be helpful. This guide features tips on managing finances, safe medication practices, building social connections, handling daily activities, maintaining a healthy diet and more. #OlderAmericansMonth #OAM #SeniorLiving

👉 A great staffing resource Work plays an important role for seniors not just financially but for both physical and mental health. Did you know? There is a specific sponsored program that trains mature workers to be direct care workers, helping and serving the aging community!! Seniors serving seniors. The national council on aging pioneered a program to train mature workers to be direct care providers to older adults and disabled people who need non-medical assistance in their home. 🙌 A great resource for staffing. https://lnkd.in/e-TbnZWk
