You have to stop doing less than your best.
There’s a compelling story about Jimmy Carter during his time as a naval officer. He’s in this interview, proud of his grades, his knowledge, and achievements. But then comes a question that stops him cold: “Did you always do your best?” Carter, with a heavy heart, admits he didn’t. The interviewer simply asks, “Why not?” and walks out. That question echoed in Carter’s life forever: “Why didn’t I always do my best?”
Now, think about your own path. Reflect on the times gone by, on last year and the years before:
Why didn’t you always give it your all? And why are you doing things that you don't think deserve your best?
This year, let’s change that. Whatever you’re doing, pour your heart and soul into it. Our best effort is something we always control. We don’t hold the reins to success, recognition, or victory, but we do control our dedication, our passion, our relentless pursuit.
As the great Steve Prefontaine quote goes : “To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.”
Not just the gift of your talents, I would say, but also the gift of the time in front of you and the life you've been given.. Let’s not waste it. Let’s honor it by doing our absolute best, every single day. Your life deserves nothing less.
Wishing you a grande 2024!
