This doesn’t surprise me. The restaurant industry is due for facelift. As prices rise on a more budget conscious demographic and costs rise on operators, restaurants are asking staffs to do more with less once again. Restaurant employees have a very unique skill set that allows them to pivot into more traditional working careers that align better with their lifestyles. Couple this with a gig economy that allows the workforce to earn money while figuring out their next steps, you have a perfect storm of factors. I believe restaurant bankruptcies are just the tip of the iceberg, in an already volatile industry.
Q2 proves to be tough for the restaurant job market. Eating and drinking places lost over 3,000 jobs in June, while Q2 marked the industry's weakest quarterly performance since Q4 2020. http://ow.ly/yqw3105zt3L
