Economic stability is key to health. Wealth disparities that overburden communities of color are a root cause of minority health disparities. As we celebrate the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health #MinorityHealthMonth, and its theme of addressing the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) that drive health disparities, we lift up our partner Aaron E. Henry Clinic (AEH), a Federally Qualified Health Center, and their community partners in Clarksdale, Mississippi for building person- and family-centered solutions to foster economic equity to drive health equity. AEH serves the rural Mississippi Delta, an area marked by deep intergenerational poverty and racial inequality across sectors that create racial, health, and social disparities. Since late 2022, AEH has worked with Southern Bancorp, a certified Community Development Financial Institution, to secure funding, design, and launch a patient care delivery model that promotes universal coordinated access to comprehensive resources to address SDOH, with an emphasis on economic stability, mobility, health, and wellness. This work is designed to advance health equity, justice, diversity, and inclusion while building the groundwork for stronger community health systems and addressing mental and physical health disparities. 📽️ View a short video that describes this emerging work here: https://lnkd.in/gX46ensm #MinorityHealthEquity #NMHM24 #PersonCenteredCare #Economicequity

Parkinson’s patients continue to grow in number. Visibility to this disease is seen in all aspects of our lives. Today Parkinson’s can be very normal work conversation when it wasn’t before. Celebrity death talk at the water cooler frequently includes the word Parkinson’s. Think about your work for a minute. Does your organization have a focus on disability awareness and advocacy? Really ? Does it? Do you have a Parkinson’s Hero in your organization? Many of us are always looking for things to get behind. Why not get behind your team. Does it make sense to give a Hero walk a go. Participation in these Hero walks just might be a way to communicate and strengthen your support both internally and in your communities. We are participating in the Grand Rapids Hero walk. Need a team to join. We are listed in the choices. We would love for all to join us in person or in spirit. It is a fun day. Give it some thought and hope to see you there.

It's 600 A.D. in Britain and the Saxons of Essex found a new territory called Middlesex. By this time, you have the South Saxons (Sussex), East Saxons (Essex), Middle Saxons (Middlesex), and the West Saxons (Wessex). For us in New Jersey, you'll recognize familiar names. Except for one. Why is there no Wessex County in New Jersey? When NJ was in its English-ruled infancy it was split in two, East and West Jersey. In the 1600's East Jersey formed the Counties of Bergen, Essex, Middlesex, and Monmouth. West Jersey formed Salem and Burlington. As New Jersey unified and developed new Counties, Sussex County was founded in 1753. And for anyone looking at a map, here is my glaring problem with that. Sussex being the northern-most County in the State, its name, to put it politely, is stupid considering its namesake. So stupid in fact that with it being WEST of Essex and Middlesex, naming it Wessex County is just so obvious. Also there was never a "Norsex" (Northern Saxon) kingdom in England, so again Wessex County make sense. Since then, Counties have been partitioned and new were Counties founded, but none were to be named Wessex. Perhaps one day we'll see it become a 22nd County in New Jersey. Oddly enough, a fictional Wessex County, New Jersey does exist and in all places it's the Friday the 13th series. Anyway, this is my short rant on why Sussex should be renamed Wessex County, and New Jersey can form a new 22nd County in South Jersey called Sussex. #NJHistory #Wessex #22ndCounty
