I am so excited for this! My great-grandfather's WWII discharge records were the only records of his to survive the fire. They were water-damaged but still provided new information. "We know about 80% of Army records from Nov. 1 1912 to Jan. 1 1960; and 75% of all Air Force records from 25 Sep. 1947 to 1 Jan 1964 were destroyed in the fire of 1973 at the St. Louis National Personnel Records Center. So how can you obtain information on your veteran for those years? Answer: Morning Reports With Morning Reports researchers may be able to trace their veteran's service from their starting date to their discharge. Even if your veteran was transferred from one unit to another, which was quite common, that would be noted in the morning reports. The Green Beret Foundation (GBF) launched the Pineland Initiative on November 10, 2021. This new campaign focuses on expanding the Foundation’s scope of services to include pre-9/11 U.S. Army Special Forces soldiers and their families. The Pineland Initiative, which launched in 2022, reflects a 3-year phased approach to growth and expansion of existing programs and services to accommodate the needs of the pre-9/11 Green Beret population. One key aspect of this expansion is the welcoming of additional Veteran Service Officers (VSOs) onboard GBF staff to meet the anticipated greater need for assistance with the preparation and prosecution of Veterans Affairs benefits and disability claims. These new VSOs will bring with them the added benefit of providing a Foundation presence geographically located at each of the five Active Duty Special Forces Groups, and two National Guard Special Forces Groups, located around the country. The name “Pineland” pays tribute to the shared legacy of Green Berets, past and present. This initiative is well-timed, as the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the U.S. Army Special Forces will be commemorated this coming June 19th. With Pineland being the first initiative in GBF’s history to support Green Berets of all generations, there’s an opportunity to honor those that laid the groundwork to make the Green Berets the world’s premier, elite special operations force. The GBF is asking that those wishing to support the Pineland Initiative campaign consider making a commitment of support to the Foundation at the amount of just a $12 monthly recurring contribution. #greenberet #specialforces #militaryfamilies #veteransupport #Pineland #greenberetfoundation

What's a military base? That depends on who you are. A base is a community. A base is a show of force. A base is support and maintenance... We were in the Pentagon closing a bomber squadron. The higher ups said it was OK (as in it would get through Congress) as they were replacing the sq with Predators. Completely different jobs, but a net zero loss of jobs. A base is about a billion dollars to the local economy. A base is taxes and jobs for constituents. They don't make the best decisions for security or finances, they make decisions based on whatever guarantees them reelection. That means no one is looking out for the future.
