🌟This #FeatureFriday, we're showcasing a recent project in Invermere, BC, where we conducted a slope stability assessment crucial for residential construction along Toby Cutoff Road. 🛠️ To facilitate construction in the planned subdivision, a site-specific slope stability assessment was necessary to confirm setback requirements. The assessment aimed to evaluate the stability of natural slopes surrounding the proposed house location along its north, east, and west boundaries. This involved conducting a thorough geotechnical investigation, including drilling two boreholes near Toby Creek's crest, performing in-situ testing, soil sampling, and installing a standpipe to measure groundwater levels. Based on the findings, a slope model was created, and recommendations were provided to ensure a suitable Factor of Safety was achieved for house construction, ultimately proposing a geotechnical setback line from the crest of the slope for the development Many BASE services were involved with this project: 👉 Borehole drilling, in-situ testing and soil sampling 👉 Laboratory testing 👉 Geohazard identification 👉 Slope stability analysis (static and pseudo-static conditions) 👉 Landslide assessment assurance statement (BC) 👉 Establishing slope stability development setbacks 👉 ...and more! 🌱 Ready for your geotechnical engineering needs, BASE provides solutions for a stable tomorrow. 🚧 Dynamic Compaction: Revolutionizing Ground Improvement 🚧 Dynamic compaction is a powerful technique used to enhance the density and bearing capacity of soil, making it ideal for construction and land reclamation projects. By repeatedly dropping a heavy weight onto the ground, we can achieve remarkable soil stabilization and strength. Why Choose Dynamic Compaction? Cost-Effective: More economical than deep foundation methods. Deep Impact: Effective for compacting soil up to 10 m Versatility: Suitable for a variety of soil types and project needs. Applications: Preparing reclaimed land for construction Enhancing loose cohesionless soils like sand Mitigating liquefaction risks in seismic areas #DynamicCompaction #ConstructionInnovation #SoilImprovement #GroundStabilization #CivilEngineering #LandReclamation #SustainableConstruction #GeotechnicalEngineering #InfrastructureDevelopment #ConstructionTechnology

The management of water in Large Open Pits (LOPs) is becoming increasingly important to all parties involved, including groundwater end users. As a result, a mine needs to think about important water management challenges, "where the water is coming from, where it is traveling along and where it is stored". The publication "Guideline for Evaluating water pit slope stability" by Geoff Beale and John Read, is what I personally recommend. Excellent reference work that serves as a "Dewatering Bible book", providing guidelines for efficient dewatering design and implementation as well as how the created hydrogeological models may be used in the design of rock slopes. It opens the door for slope designers to look into and control pit slope water pressure for safe mine working conditions and reduce loss for operation.
