Erika Brodnock MBE is a woman I hugely admire. What she has achieved professionally is incredible, all whilst raising 5 children AND being a lovely, kind, astute, generous human. She is exactly the kind of person that VCs and others who invest in businesses should be listening to. In fact, she's one of an increasing number of voices in the space that should be listened to by those parting with the cash. But are they listening? Nope, it would seem not. 2% of VC money invested in female founders - it is almost 2024 and this dial has barely moved in 10 years. The fingers in the ears approach goes against all the data, take a look at the data: 👉🏿 Companies led by women achieve consistently higher revenue 👉🏿 Female executives notably increase and improve company performance 👉🏿 Women-owned businesses create substantially more job opportunities 👉🏿 Senior leadership is markedly more effective when it’s mostly women 👉🏿 Women display more eagerness for career growth and advancement or what about the simplest one of all: that female founded companies return almost twice as much ROI as male founded companies? 2024 is almost upon us, we can all play a part here: VC and investors; get with the programme and invest wisely without bias and FUND FEMALE FOUNDERS Customers ( all of us) buy from female founders ( look at BUY WOMEN BUILT for inspiration if needed). It is good for the whole to have more women and under-represented entrepreneurs involved, it is not a takeover, its a levellerup-erer! Statistics show that female-founded startups deliver twice as much ROI per dollar than those founded by men. In fact, it’s been proven that: 👉🏿 Companies led by women achieve consistently higher revenue 👉🏿 Female executives notably increase and improve company performance 👉🏿 Women-owned businesses create substantially more job opportunities 👉🏿 Senior leadership is markedly more effective when it’s mostly women 👉🏿 Women display more eagerness for career growth and advancement …And yet, 98% of VC backing goes to male-founded companies. When it comes to finding investment, I know from experience that women face obstacle after obstacle in a way that our male peers do not. But we’re still here.  We’re still proving our worth, each and every day. And until we live in a world that creates equal opportunities for every founder, no matter their gender, we’re going to keep shouting about this. The proof is in the pudding. I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again… FUND FEMALE FOUNDERS.
