Mind the Gap: Melbourne's $14 Billion Rail Overhaul Gathers Steam! Exciting news for Melbourne! Construction has officially begun on all 6 new underground stations as part of the Suburban Rail Loop East (SRL East), the transformative (some might say controversial, due to the cost uncertainties) project connecting Box Hill and Cheltenham. As covered in the media, this game-changer is more than just a rail line – it's a revolution for Melbourne's eastern suburbs. Key highlights: ✳️26km of twin tunnels burrowing deep, connecting communities like never before. ✳️6 modern stations popping up, including 4 interchange hubs at Box Hill, Glen Waverley, Clayton & Cheltenham.....all now underway ✳️New stations for Burwood and Monash, putting them on the rail map for the first time! ✳️A $14 billion investment by the Victorian and Australian governments, shaping the future of Melbourne's transport. ✳️Completion by 2035, slashing travel times and boosting connectivity across the city. The action's already started: ✳️Early works are underway in Heatherton, Cheltenham & Glen Waverley. ✳️A temporary bridge was planned in Box Hill to keep traffic flowing during construction. ✳️Tunnelling is set to begin in 2026, with contracts already awarded for the first section. Want to learn more and have your say? Check out the draft Suburban Rail Loop Precinct Visions (open for feedback until March 3rd!). This is a major project for Melbourne, and it's just the beginning! Stay tuned for updates as the SRL East project unfolds, bringing us closer to a faster, more connected city. #BuildingTalks #MelbourneTransport #InfrastructureDevelopment #SuburbanRailLoop Shoutout to Architectus for designing the stations! P.S. Share your thoughts on the SRL East! What are you most excited about?
