Yesterday we wrapped up our quarterly strategic meeting at Swift. As a small, owner founded company, it’s taken us a minute to get here, but this is the leadership cadence we’ve gotten to, and the one that I would suggest every small independent company would put into place: Quarterly 2-Day leadership off sites with an agenda that has room to breathe and time to connect. We caught three major misalignments in the beautiful space between agenda items. That feed into Quarterly department strategic sessions that align with the recalibration work of the leadership team has joined forces on That inform Quarterly individual performance and goal setting reviews to ensure that everyone is rowing in the same direction. To further an analogy related to water: Think of this as a river of information. For us, this order of meetings represents the right information at the headwaters flowing through the organization without dams or diversions.

Martina Brimmer what I most appreciate here is the focus on a longer session with space to breathe. In the leadership off sites I'm a part of there so SO MUCH to cram in the agenda. Prioritizing space for nothing can be really hard. I commend you and your team for making space for the unknown to show up. Much easier said than done.
