Democrats' Biden meltdown Kate Aronoff The New Republic: "The most influential voices within the Democratic Party have publicly fallen in line behind his position that we should let Joe give it another go. That’s probably partly due to the West Wing liberalism that prevails among party 'leaders,' superseding any actual ideological commitments regarding how the country should be governed: Get enough smart and well-intentioned people into positions of power, and they’ll figure out solutions to the issue of the week. More than any particular vision for the future of the country—or keeping Trump out of office—Biden and his closest advisers seem invested mainly in the idea that they are precisely the right smart people for the job, however little chance they stand of actually winning." "There is no Democratic Party deep state–style establishment waiting for the right moment to step in and choose the best candidate for the job. While they’ve routinely meddled in undermining progressives, the closest party leaders ever got to grand strategy was intervening to keep Bernie Sanders from winning the presidential primary in 2020. Despite Biden’s obvious faults, senior party members have let him continue on, demonizing critics. Whatever combination of hero worship, donor demands, learned helplessness, or garden-variety intransigence is motivating that, the outcome is the same: There are no adults in the room." #biden Democratic National Committee #dnc #democrats #democraticparty

The Fearsome Doberman: Biden’s Dilemma in 2024 Even the most fearsome Doberman, when confronted with a mighty enemy, submits with fear, backed into a corner, too scared to fight back. The overbearing attacker mocks and taunts him with every little bit of humiliation possible. This analogy vividly describes the current state of the Democratic Party under Joe Biden’s leadership. As we look toward the 2024 election, it’s increasingly apparent that Biden is on a precarious path. His administration, plagued by both internal and external challenges, seems unable to assert itself against the mounting pressures. If the Democratic Party doesn’t take decisive action, they risk being dragged down with him, much like a cornered Doberman paralyzed by fear. The signs are clear: Biden’s approval ratings are slipping, and the Republican opposition is gearing up for a fierce campaign. The Democratic Party must find its backbone, shedding the demeanor of “scared little mice” if they hope to stand a chance. It’s time for bold strategies and unwavering resolve. If the Democrats can harness their collective strength and address the key issues head-on, they might still turn the tide. But without a significant shift, Biden’s struggles will undoubtedly hammer the party in 2024. Have you heard of the term ‘Polycrisis’? If not, read on. With latest polls showing Trump marginally ahead of Biden in the November presidential election, those in the know are genuinely worried that he will win. So, what does that mean for American democracy, security alliances, global financial markets and our regional and domestic interests? Win or lose, we can expect disharmony and disruption in the US. Combine that with current geo-political tensions, climate impacts, global cost-of-living pressures and social upheaval, the World Economic Forum defines this inter-connected set of events as a polycrisis. With just over six months until the US election, are you factoring this into your board-level strategic planning? www.sention.co #emergingrisk https://lnkd.in/gTxKm53V

Whether anyone or someone agrees or disagrees with this commentators position on this matter, THE QUESTIONS THAT ARE RAISED ARE BEYOND REASONABLE! Who (what elected official) is responsible and accountable for running our nation? Are we to assume the unelected Cabinet members (known in other forms of government with similar type powers as a ‘Politburo”) are running our nation? Are we to assume that the Democrat ‘machine’ is in charge of our nation? I thought we had laws, a Constitution, and other guiding documents that created the form and format for how our government functions! IF these surreptitious, possibly clandestine, obfuscated actions that have been intentionally utilized to keep people in power, at what point is this considered unconstitutional, overtly illegal, and possibly TREASONOUS?!? Are our fellow citizens who are aligned with the party in power INDIFFERENT to these possibilities? Have we all been propagandized into thinking that these questions don’t matter regarding the CURRENT party running our nation because the opposition (Republicans) and especially their candidate, will DO what the Democrats are already doing? I trust that the upcoming debate will raise this question and provide VP Harris to clarify and satisfy concerns regarding this/these matters.

The US is experiencing an existential crisis of leadership. Current president Biden presents an image of an old man lost in the space of the turmoil that surrounds him, appearing weak and indecisive in contrast with presumptive president Trump. The seminal events of the debate and shooting have realigned the race. Trump projects confidence and strength as he tells lie after lie. These sadly matter little as it is image that now counts. This in turn shapes the narrative that Democrats will have a hard time recasting. Think Brexit. It’s easy to get a skewed perspective in the midst of the cultish euphoria of Milwaukee, but the Republicans are hungry for power and sense blood. I’ll balance this with observing the Democratic campaign elsewhere in WI. The question lingers - are the Democrats as hungry and can they refine their message and get a convincing messenger?

Recently, I published a seven-part series on the Trump/Biden matchup, focusing on climate-relevant actions in Trump and Biden Administrations, and the campaign rhetoric and promises in 2024. Of course, Biden dropped out as the series was closing out and Harris became the candidate. Further muddying the waters, Tim Walz was named her running mate. And so, a return to #Election 2024, with a look at what a Harris/Walz administration might mean for #climateaction. It’s worth casting our minds back to the last presidential election cycle. During 2020, the #USA saw a remarkable, open, clear, and respectful debate across the political spectrum, with candidates who were left and right of center socially and fiscally, as well as candidates who focused on #WallStreet reform, social justice and cross-the-aisle solutions. It was a bravura display of #American democracy at its best, a long running debate between potential leaders committed to the country about how best to shape its response to the rapidly changing world. That event was the #Democratic presidential primary debates. Sadly, the #Republican Party was missing in action from useful policy discussions, its much diminished and fractured body having been hijacked by Donald Trump’s populism. But for people actually concerned with real issues facing America and meaningful alternatives for policy, the economy, the climate, and foreign policy, it was a glorious oasis in a fractious political cycle. Democratic presidential nominee competitor climate scorecard from 2020 election cycle by author. At the time, I tracked the major candidates and a couple of interesting outliers like Andrew Yang with a seven-part assessment of their climate actions platforms. Not particularly sharp eyes will note that Kamala Harris’ climate action planned scored highest, followed by Warren. As I said at the time: - Harris’ plan is aggressive & well-balanced, with clear dates, targets, & action items, and is aimed at building a coalition of allies - The strongest candidate on climate in 2020 has been Vice President for the past four years of the Biden administration as many consequential executive actions and pieces of legislation have been shepherded through the thorns of a divided Democratic Party with its #fossilfuel extremist wing, best represented by #coal millionaire Joe Manchin, and a Republican Party so committed to obstructionism that they refused to pass legislation that they agreed with and had sponsored.
