Chasing ‘Unicorn’ Status: A Misguided Venture? In my opinion, aspiring for ‘unicorn’ status places unnecessary organizational pressure and attention on what is already a challenging and risky entrepreneurial path. While aspirations are commendable, the unicorn label—much like its mythical counterpart—is more about perception than reality, and ultimately irrelevant. The reality is, few businesses intentionally set out to become unicorns and actually achieve it. For most, it happens serendipitously. The valuation of a company is not a true reflection of its creation but rather an external viewpoint. Once you reach that valuation, you relinquish control; the investment market dictates your business, scrutinizing every decision and stumble. A word of caution: be careful what you wish for. Numerous ‘unicorns’ have reached their peak only to plummet into obscurity. Let’s focus on building sustainable value, not chasing elusive titles.
