Perseverance in the Pursuit of Passion: My Journey with Mercedes-Benz🚀 Many years ago, I joined Mercedes Benz Malaysia under a dealership in Kedah, fueled by a dream to become a Mercedes Benz Product Expert. Armed with a promise encapsulated in an offer letter, I embarked on what I believed would be a transformative career path. However, life had other plans, and I found myself navigating the unexpected role of a sales position instead. Despite the divergence from my initial goal, my aspiration didn’t wane—I patiently waited for the opportunity to rise. Unfortunately, I discovered that my name had never been forwarded for the necessary certification training, a realization that deeply saddened me. With a heavy heart, I made the difficult decision to leave Mercedes-Benz and explore new opportunities with Porsche. This transition, however, only reaffirmed my passion for Mercedes Benz—the brand was ingrained in me. Realizing that my heart belongs with the three-pointed star, now i’m waiting with renewed vigor to pursue the dream that never left me. Today, as I continue to strive towards becoming a Mercedes-Benz Product Expert, my journey is a testament to never giving up on your dreams, no matter the detours life may present. I was fortunate enough recently to be invited to the home of Mercedes Benz Racing by the wonderful coach Fiona Ross.   Not only was it much fun to race cars around the track, it was great to meet so many interesting people. But what did I learn?   💡 The stories we tell ourselves can prevent us from seeing the available opportunities. When we share our plans, goals and challenges, other people can help us see things our blindspots. It proved to me the value of having a coach/mentor who can help you see blindspots/opportunities as and when they arrive.   💡 I was reminded of the joy and importance of being present. As soon as I got in the driving seat I became totally focused on the job at hand - our ability to learn new skills, problem solve, and see opportunities, all increase when in a state of being present.   💡 You have to let go of outcomes. Like most of us, I am guilty from time to time of entering into a conversation/situation looking to achieve a specific outcome. A more authentic approach would be to enter the space with no preconceived ideas other than to be present and go with the flow, remembering that the best input you can give is to help someone else, not simply meet your own needs.   💡 Personal integrity should not be underestimated. It's about having an agreement with yourself about how you want to show up/live your life and then your actions/decisions/words determine whether you are living in integrity or not. The suggestion was that we should not make commitments without careful consideration. We are all guilty of agreeing to things which either we don't keep or are not in line with our core values.   💡 Committing to your goals. It was interesting to participate in a discussion about deciding whether you are ‘on the pitch or in the stands’. We concluded that you are either 100% committed or not at all – there are no half-measures.   It was a fun day and further proof that a change in environment can present hugely valuable insights.   #inspiration #grablife

As I look back on my career in the automotive industry, starting nearly 16 years ago as a car salesman, I’m filled with a deep sense of humility and gratitude. It’s been a journey of relentless learning, adapting, and growing, every step teaching me invaluable lessons about the industry, leadership, and myself. This journey has been far from linear, marked by challenges that seemed insurmountable and achievements that were beyond my wildest dreams. I have no skills! Said a young man. He had done his military service and was looking for a job.   I didn't have a clue of what I wanted to do or what I was good for when I graduated highschool, so I deeply care about young people finding their way and confidence to step into the work world. To succeed (on your own terms) you need confidence and competence, and awareness of both.   The young man continued to tell me about his motorsport hobby. He said he was a spotter and explained what a spotter does. During the training he takes a high spot with a good view on the track. He takes notes about where and what the pilot does and how his actions influence his speed. He also takes notes of the car's performance throughout the track. He then feeds this information back to the pilot and the team so that improvements can be made.   I immediately recognised that this is a skill that is highly valuable in all sorts of quality related roles. The ability to revise the whole process and make relevant changes to improve quality and efficiency is his talent. Not to mention communication and feedback skills. He had never thought about it this way and was happy to have a new perspective to his abilities and talents.   In addition to any other goals you may set for yourself for this year, I hope you also learn more about your talents, skills and abilities. These two factors - the culture and the people - enable me to develop my full potential every day, master the challenges and continue to develop and grow personally 🚀 Let's be honest, it's not always sunshine and rainbows – sometimes, it's about stepping out of the comfort zone and going the extra mile.
