**Progress on Texas Infrastructure: Webber Excels on I-10 Widening Project** Webber, a Ferrovial company, is making significant headway on the 47-mile Interstate 10 widening project between Houston and Beaumont, remaining ahead of schedule on this vital initiative. Designed to improve safety and efficiency, this upgrade addresses one of Texas's busiest transportation corridors. As a key segment of the national freight network, this stretch of I-10 serves daily commuters and supports a substantial portion of commercial freight traffic across the southern U.S. The project’s transformative benefits include: ◾ Expanding the highway from four lanes to six in select areas to ease congestion. ◾ Upgrading bridges, drainage systems, and access points for improved safety and resilience. ◾ Enhancing mobility for commercial and local vehicles, bolstering economic growth and connectivity for millions of users annually. Webber’s progress highlights its commitment to delivering large-scale infrastructure projects through innovation, teamwork, and efficient problem-solving, even under challenging conditions. This effort is part of TxDOT’s larger mission to modernize infrastructure and support the rapid growth of the Lone Star State. #Infrastructure #HighwayConstruction #TexasDOT #TransportationProjects #CivilEngineering #RoadWidening #ConstructionUpdates #Webber #InnovationInConstruction #EconomicGrowth #I10Widening #TexasInfrastructure #EfficientPlanning

“The I-45 NHHIP is a $13 billion initiative designed to expand roadway capacity, reduce congestion, improve safety, and enhance mobility along I-45 from I-69 to Beltway 8 North. It also includes rebuilding downtown Houston’s freeway system, which covers I-45, I-69, I-10, and SH 288. A key element is rerouting I-45 to run parallel with I-69 and I-10 through downtown Houston. The first phase, Segment 3B-1, will focus on stormwater management with the installation of 12-foot box culverts to direct stormwater to detention ponds, enhancing flood resiliency. St. Emanuel Street will serve as a feeder road for this portion of I-45. This phase, expected to be completed by 2027, has a budget of $121 million. Following this, Segment 3B-2, set to begin in January 2025 and expected to be completed by 2030, will focus on constructing new mainlanes, frontage roads, and enhanced bike and pedestrian infrastructure on I-69 between SH 288 and I-45. The estimated cost for Segment 3B-2 is $695.5 million. The entire I-45 NHHIP project is expected to take 18 years to complete.” https://lnkd.in/gmuWrCRK

🚆 **Transforming Baltimore's Infrastructure: The Frederick Douglass Tunnel Project** 🛠️ Baltimore is on the brink of a transportation revolution with the ongoing Frederick Douglass Tunnel project. This $4.7 billion initiative, named after the legendary abolitionist and Maryland native, will replace the aging Baltimore and Potomac Tunnel, significantly improving travel along the Northeast Corridor. The project, a cornerstone of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will alleviate a major rail bottleneck between Washington, D.C., and New Jersey, boosting travel reliability and efficiency for millions. Key highlights: - **New Tunnel**: A modern tunnel allowing speeds of up to 110 mph. - **Community Impact**: $50 million earmarked for local investments in workforce development, parks, and more. - **Local Engagement**: Regular community meetings to ensure transparency and involvement. Witnessing the early stages of demolition and preparation, the Frederick Douglass Tunnel is poised to be a gamechanger for Baltimore and the entire region. Note the claim in the last paragraph: “Under Commissioner McMurry’s stewardship, GDOT has emerged as a #P3 leader, notably with the successful implementation of transformative efforts like the I-75 Northwest Corridor Express Lanes and the I-285/SR 400 Interchange reconstruction. Those projects, delivered through innovative Design-Build-Finance models, are significantly enhancing traffic flow in the metro Atlanta area and improving commuter experiences while setting new benchmarks for efficiency and public benefit.” Do highway expansion projects ever provide enduring enhancements to traffic flow? This #transportation agency in the US state of #Georgia clearly thinks so, but where is their proof? Current research indicates the opposite: expanded roads are known induce demand, which results in more congestion. Is this award an attempt by the highway #planning establishment to justify the vast expenditures on these projects that inevitably fail their primary mission? https://lnkd.in/ePxjJxwt

Regional officials have successfully secured a $6.8 billion federal funding agreement to advance the long-delayed Hudson Tunnel project, a critical $16.1-billion infrastructure overhaul linking New York and New Jersey. This project aims to rehabilitate a deteriorating, century-old rail tunnel and construct a new one, crucial for the Northeast Corridor, Amtrak's busiest route with over 2,200 daily trains. The federal funding agreement, marking a significant milestone, ensures the project proceeds regardless of potential changes in the Oval Office following the upcoming presidential election. The Gateway Development Commission, responsible for the project, will commence major construction this month, targeting completion by 2035. At a news conference, Kris Kolluri, CEO of the Gateway Development Commission, heralded the agreement as the "point of no return" for the project. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer emphasized the project's reality, likening the effort to a marathon. The Hudson Tunnel project is vital not only for regional connectivity but also for the broader U.S. economy. The existing tunnel, compromised by Superstorm Sandy in 2012, will be replaced, and a new underwater tunnel will be constructed. The project's cost has escalated to $16.1 billion, 14% higher than previous estimates from 2021. With 70% of the project's funding covered by federal grants, contributions also come from New York, New Jersey, Amtrak, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The Hudson Tunnel project is a crucial infrastructure initiative essential for the resilience and efficiency of the Northeast Corridor, a critical artery for passenger and freight rail traffic in the United States. The successful funding agreement underscores the importance of federal and regional collaboration in addressing infrastructure challenges and securing economic stability and growth. The project's advancement signifies a major step forward in modernizing America's transportation infrastructure. #HudsonTunnel #Infrastructure #Amtrak #NortheastCorridor #FederalFunding #GatewayProject #NYNJ #Transportation #EconomicGrowth #SuperstormSandy #RailInfrastructure https://lnkd.in/ehkMA2_y

Infrastructure spending is always a welcome sign, especially when it improves rail transportation in the US. 🇺🇸 🚊 NJ TRANSIT is moving forward with a $500M contract with George Harms Construction Co., Inc. for the Delco Lead Storage and Inspection Facility. It will directly address lessons learned during Superstorm Sandy and help protect our rail infrastructure with a designated locomotive storage and inspection facility above the flood plain. The improvements include: - reconstruction of 4 miles of track and a new adjacent mile-long track -a 1,250 long service and inspection facility with storage for spare parts and maintenance capacity for up to 12-car trains -crew quarters and parking at County Yard, a safe location above the flood plain. Congratulations to Kevin Corbett on his upcoming retirement after helping to bring this project together! #infrastructure #transportation #construction #rail
