As students and teachers prepare to return to the classroom, remember that a healthy learning environment goes beyond textbooks and school supplies. Clean air is a critical component of a safe and productive school experience. The American Lung Association provides valuable guidance to help navigate common lung health challenges that may arise during the school year. Here are some key tips to consider: 🔹If your child has #asthma, make sure to review their asthma action plan with school health staff. It's also crucial to ensure they have access to their medication, both at home and at school. Consider discussing inhaler techniques with your healthcare provider before school starts. 🔹With over 2.1 million middle and high school students reporting e-cigarette use, it's vital to have conversations about the dangers of vaping. Educate your children on the risks and prepare them to face peer pressure situations. 🔹Schools should ensure that classrooms and common areas are free from allergens and irritants. Proper #ventilation, #filtration and regular maintenance are key to creating a healthy learning environment. 🔹Ensure your child is up to date on all recommended vaccinations, to protect against infectious diseases and minimize missed school days. May is High Blood Pressure Education Month. According to the NIH, half of Americans have #highbloodpressure, or hypertension, and many don’t know they have it. Phreesia is committed to delivering public health information and educational resources to patients who may be at risk for conditions like hypertension. Last year, we partnered with the Ad Council on a High Blood Pressure Control campaign to deliver over 550,000 high blood pressure awareness messages to patients who had been diagnosed with high blood pressure but were not on treatment. Data from the campaign indicates that when a patient is activated at the point of care, they are more likely to seek information about high blood pressure and engage in meaningful care conversations with their doctor about how to manage it. Visit our website to learn how Phreesia’s public health campaigns help drive education, screenings and vaccinations, among other preventive and population health efforts: https://bit.ly/4akOc2B

My 2024 PSA of healthcare issues as of January 4th. These health issues are issues that both transend and intertwine with almost every healthcare profession. This is the time of the year where blood banks become critically low. Consider being a volunteer, donor, or starting a blood drive in your community. Blood now saves a patient's life later and January is National Blood Donor Month. Where do I start? ( https://lnkd.in/errM3nR8 ) All the same as above consider volunteering at a food pantry, or hosting a food bank drive either in person or virtually (I am working with the food bank to have a virtual drive so stay tuned for that) Find your local food bank: ( https://lnkd.in/ePxjmrUq ) We will be back to masking next week in my hospital. This is my PSA for you to get your flu, covid, and if applicable pneumonia and/or RSV vaccine. Over the past month I have seen patients all over Maryland, DC, and Virginia who are my age intubated with the flu and/or pneumonia. This is not a vaccine debate, just a simple ask. It feels very similar to the flu landscape before C19 in 2020 which is nerve-wracking. Which vaccines should you ask your healthcare provider and/or pharmacist about? ( https://lnkd.in/eD3t5z3H ) If you would like to join forces on any of these please let me know. Working together is critical to push healthcare forward. ❤️ #healthcareonlinkedin #nursesonlinkedin
