♾️ Your team is not your family is the topic of this festive Friday’s Dilemma. You’ve posted a photo of yourself wearing a Santa hat, maybe like Begoña San José, PhD, or you just go around trying to spread the Christmas spirit. All you want for Christmas is to connect, on a personal level with your colleagues. After all, you spend more time with your team than with your family…. But here’s the challenge: 🎄Some team members see the team as their second family and thrive on personal connection. 🎄Others prefer to keep relationships strictly professional. 🎄As a leader, you also have to guard your own time and energy during the busiest time of the year… Do you encourage personal sharing to bring Christmas spirit or do you leave team building for the annual off site? How do you connect meaningfully without crossing boundaries? Connection and healthy boundaries are not mutually exclusive. Any mixed feelings on this? Do you have prior experience on boundaries being overcrossed? #FridaysDilemma #HealthyBoundaries #ChristmasSpirit

5 ways to thank your your team for all their efforts in 2024 (without saying "thank you" - although that's always a good start!) 🎅 Give them the gift of time Give your team an afternoon or full day to spend with family and friends or declare a meeting-free day so everyone can focus, wrap up work, or simply breathe. 🎄 Team celebrations Take your team out for lunch, dinner or some other form of festive activity. Not all located near each other? Host a virtual celebration, share stories, celebrate achievements whilst enjoying mince pies, festive music and games. 🤶 A personalised note Write a handwritten note, thoughtful message or even make a call recognising their hard work and commitment, expressing gratitude for specific achievements throughout the year. 🌟 Go public Recognise the whole team in a meeting or through a team kudos board or shout-out wall, this will create a sense of togetherness and collective appreciation. 🎁 A thoughtful gift Even if budgets are tight, a small, surprise and thoughtful gift will show your appreciation and make your team feel valued. Our team members should feel valued throughout the year. Thank yous, recognition and gestures of appreciation should be baked into your culture and ways of working. If they're not, now is a great time to start... _______ ♻️ Share the love. Repost for your network. 📌 Follow Jo Coxhill for insights on #internalcommunication, #employeeexperience, #employeelistening and #organisationalculture. #5thingsthursday

Happy Friday, everyone! As we wrap up another week, let’s take a moment to reflect on the power of kindness in the workplace. 💡 Today, I challenge you to think about one kind thing you did for your colleagues this week. It could be as simple as: • Offering a word of encouragement • Lending a helping hand on a project • Taking the time to listen with empathy Small acts of kindness have the power to create a ripple effect of positivity in our workplace culture. 💡 Now, think about what your team members did for you. Perhaps they went above and beyond to support you on a challenging task, offered guidance when you needed it most, or simply brightened your day with their presence. Take a moment to express gratitude for their kindness and acknowledge the value they bring to the team. As we reflect on the week behind us, let’s carry the spirit of kindness into the weekend and beyond. Together, we can create a workplace where compassion, support, and appreciation thrive. Who doesn’t like receiving gifts? The element of surprise, the gesture, the thought - they make gifts really special! And, gifts can be a powerful motivator in the workplace A thoughtful token to show your team members you recognise and appreciate their hard work. It goes beyond just boosting morale, and helps foster a culture of gratitude. The key isn't the price tag; it's the thought behind it. Even a thoughtful, handwritten note praising a recent accomplishment or a gift card to their favourite brand can go a long way. And even though you do care deeply about your team as individuals and not just employees, these small gestures help demonstrate it better. The result? A happier, more engaged team that feels valued and #motivated to push forward! So next time someone on your team knocks it out of the park, consider a small token of appreciation. It might just be the spark they need to fire up the #boosters! #workplace #team #appreciation

🎄 Each year, my family has two unique Christmas traditions inspired by the spirit of Saint Nicholas. ✨ The Santa Dinner: We visit a restaurant, secretly buy dinner for another family, and leave without revealing ourselves. ✨ The Christmas Eve Delivery: We pick someone who might need extra kindness—emotionally or physically—and deliver a surprise gift to their doorstep. 🏢 Why does this matter for the workplace? These traditions remind me that: 💠 Small acts of generosity ripple outward. Whether it’s buying a meal, offering extra support to a colleague, or recognizing someone’s hard work, generosity uplifts the whole culture. 💠 Generosity isn’t about resources—it’s about intention. Our family didn’t always have much, but we found creative ways to give. Similarly, in the workplace, you don’t need a big budget to show appreciation—a thoughtful email or acknowledgment in a meeting can make someone’s day. 🪩 One year, we learned this lesson the hard way. We unknowingly bought dinner for a family that had cut us off in traffic just minutes before. I hesitated, but my 12-year-old reminded me: “They might be hurting too.” In workplaces, like in life, people carry struggles we can’t always see. Choosing kindness—even when it’s hard—can transform team dynamics and make work feel a little more magical. What’s one way you’ve experienced or shared generosity at work?

𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗘𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀, 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗿! 🎄 Christmas isn’t just about exchanging gifts it’s about giving joy, time, and kindness. And this doesn’t stop at home; it extends to our workplaces too. You know what the spirit of giving can look like at work during the holidays: - 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗳: Encouraging your team (and yourself!) to step away from emails and truly unplug. Time with loved ones is the most valuable gift we can give. - 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: A heartfelt thank-you to colleagues for their hard work and contributions. A little gratitude goes a long way. - 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁: Understanding that the holidays aren’t easy for everyone and offering flexibility or a listening ear. When we embrace the joy of giving time, understanding, and gratitude we create a ripple effect. Teams come back feeling valued and recharged. Leaders grow trust. Workplaces become more human. This Christmas, let’s remember: The best gifts aren’t wrapped. They’re felt. How are you bringing the spirit of giving to your workplace this season? Do share ideas for creating meaningful, mindful work cultures. 🎁 #christmas #christmascheer #mindfulleadership #workplacewellbeing #leadership #linkedin #linkedinnews #linkedinforcreators

🎉 As we wrap up this year, it's clear that challenges and changes have been plentiful for businesses of all sizes. One thing that’s remained constant? I found this on my office desk on Friday 😊. I was really touched, and not just because I love Celebrations. And that one small gift, with its personal note, meant so much. Recognition and appreciation is powerful. It's often overlooked or a blanket 'Great job, everyone' or 'Thanks for your hard work'. The sentiment might be there but it's generic, non-specific and meaningless. There are lots of ways you can show recognition and appreciation (even on a tight/non-existent budget). However you choose to demonstrate it, make sure it's: ✅ 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 - give personalised positive feedback based on behaviour and effort, not just performance ✅ 𝗘𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 - tell them what you've noticed, how they've helped, what the impact's been ✅ 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲 - say it like you mean it ✅ 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 - public celebration in front of the entire office or a quiet, private one-to-one? How do 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 want to receive recognition and appreciation? ✅ 𝗧𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 - time off, a bonus, enrolment on a new course, more responsibility, public recognition, etc. Tailor it to what matters to them, within a structured reward and recognition program. Even little tweaks make a big difference - giving all your team chocolates this Christmas? Choose a suitable alternative for your diabetic team member. How are you recognising and appreciating your team this Christmas? #recognition #appreciation #leadershiptips #leadershipdevelopment #valueyourteam #gratitude #personalthanks
