You might assume that only small, highly desirable dogs get pre-adopted, and they do! But Memphis Animal Services started pre-adoptions in 2019 and found that most of the dogs getting pre-adopted were actually medium dogs over 6 months old - the exact population most in need at their shelter. Please stop breeding these animals just to see them destroyed. It breaks my heart. The most egregious thing is buying puppies in pet stores, online or Craigslist. These almost always come from cruel & abusive puppy mills. Greedy people who do not give even adequate care and just breed until the dog can’t and then abandon or destroy them. The USDA just rubber stamp these breeders & brokers. They often get inbred and face a lifetime of medical care. Please Google “ puppy mills” to learn more. Please share. I think all the animal rescues all over the world should link together as it would benefit all in adoptions. Though with the Feral Cat population, some of them want love, others won't. Just people need to learn to understand cat language including body & facial expressions. They all need to be TNR'd. The main ones to catch are the mother cats. Pet cats should also be Chipped & Snipped and not discarded as that's how you get feral cats. I know that there should be a theoretical test for potential adopters. Same with dogs. People who breed for money should stop, because they don't know what effects it'll have. That's why there's an oversupply of dogs in some shelters. Just think if a human could have a litter of babies every six months every year of her life, no-one would throw her away. Also think about how she'd feel. It's the same for cats, dogs, rabbits, rats and mice and any other animal that can have a litter.
