For the second edition of the Fashion Transformation report, SFC spoke to Emily Bolon, CEO of Looper Textile Co., a joint venture between H&M Group and Remondis International GmbH working to collect and sort used textiles “In 2023 our goal is to handle 40 million garments, 60% of which will go to reuse and different kinds of second hand selling, 35% will then be recycled and then the small remainder will be incinerated with thermal heat recovery because it’s contaminated with mould, moisture or otherwise impossible to reuse or recycle.” The report series Fashion Transformation examines the transformation of the fashion industry driven by market challenges, the urgency of the climate crisis, consumer shifts and legislative initiatives.
