We're pleased to announce several new additions to the Mass General Brigham Neuroscience team: E. Antonio “Nino” Chiocca, MD, PhD, has assumed the role of Chair of Neurosurgery for Mass General Brigham. He'll also continue to serve as executive director of the Center for Tumors of the Nervous System and co-chair of the Executive Committee for cancer care at Mass General Brigham. Dr. Chiocca is a nationally renowned neurosurgeon and highly esteemed researcher whose academic work has focused on the development of novel treatments for brain tumors. Previously, he served as chair of Neurosurgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital for 12 years. Tracy Batchelor, MD, MPH, will assume the role of Chair of Neurology for Mass General Brigham. Dr. Batchelor will lead the integrated department of Neurology with a vision to enhance neurological care, research and education across our system. Dr. Batchelor has more than 25 years of experience as a practicing neurologist, researcher, teacher and administrator, and previously served as the chair of Neurology at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Merit Cudkowicz, MD, MSC, will assume the role of Executive Director of the Neuroscience Institute for Mass General Brigham. Dr. Cudkowicz will lead and drive the integration of our world-class resources to provide cutting edge neuroscience treatment, innovative research and transformative educational activities within the Institute. She previously served as chair of the Department of Neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital for 13 years. “Dr. Chiocca will carry forward the work that Dr. Carter started—fostering collaboration, driving integration and building on the rich legacies of both hospitals while charting an exciting future for neurosurgery across Mass General Brigham,” says David F. M. Brown, MD, president of academic medical centers for Mass General Brigham. On Drs. Batchelor and Cudkowicz: “We are delighted that these two exceptional leaders will guide us through the unification of our renowned Neurology departments and bring together multidisciplinary teams, including our colleagues in Neurosurgery, to establish our Neuroscience Institute.”
