Attention educators, parents, and advocates! Let’s weave together the threads of community engagement and financial empowerment. Visit Jackie Ferrado, the Associate Director for Community Engagement at the WA529 table. WA529 is on a mission to empower Washington families by helping them save for educational expenses. Imagine a future where every student has access to higher education without the burden of excessive debt. That’s the vision we’re working toward. Just as Barbara Hunter emphasizes community engagement to bridge divides, Jackie Ferrado’s work echoes this sentiment. She empowers families to take control of their financial futures. Let’s rally around the idea that every child deserves a shot at higher education. WA529’s programs—GET and DreamAhead—provide flexible options for families to save. Whether it’s a traditional college or a trade school, we’re here to support students’ dreams. Swing by the conference, connect with fellow educators, and explore how community engagement and financial planning intersect. Let’s build bridges, break barriers, and pave the way for a brighter educational future. #WA529 #CommunityEngagement #HigherEducationSavings
We are excited and looking forward to hosting powerful sessions and speakers at the WSPRA Winter Conference on March 6-7 at the Puget Sound ESD in Renton, Washington! If your experience with community engagement looks like angry parents venting their frustrations at a school board meeting or fed-up teachers walking out on the job in protest, then it’s time to revisit what authentic community engagement really means and the power it can have to bring your community together. Learn how stakeholders can share their own perspectives and listen to diverse views in a civilized, productive manner. There's Still Time to Register! Don't miss out on this opportunity to connect, learn, and grow. For more information and to view the full conference agenda and session descriptions, visit our website: https://lnkd.in/dXN_J6b6

I am very curious, as are many, to see what changes the #state of #Indiana will be making to these #waivers. There are many people watching to see how the state is going to be addressing the severe lack of services. Hopefully there will be positive change. Not just cuts to try and fix the debacle with the aged and disabled waiver making it even harder to receive services for these vulnerable populations and their families. The state is rewriting Indiana’s Family Supports Waiver and Community Integration and Habilitation Waiver. These waivers provide critical home and community based services. Here is the upcoming virtual meeting with The Arc of Indiana to learn more and share your thoughts. Thursday, August 8 at 6:00pm – Virtual August’s Ask The Arc will serve as a virtual town hall meeting. https://lnkd.in/ebb3PqeQ

Hats off to Will Simons of Association Reserves for his article in the Florida Community Association Journal busting some of the most enduring myths about reserve funding. The one we’ve observed most often: 🚫Myth: Funding reserves is for future projects. ➡️Reality: Though the projects may be executed in the future, today’s reserve contributions are offsetting deterioration as it occurs. Another Will mentions: 🚫Myth: Pooled reserves lead to abuse. ➡️Reality: Cases of wasteful spending are rare, and there are ways to ensure that boards understand how to make smart decisions about repairs and upgrades. The article also includes a useful breakdown of new Florida legislation regarding associations’ duties where reserve funding is concerned.
