Ever come across the term "the broken rung"? It sheds light on the obstacles women encounter when venturing into managerial positions. Imagine a ladder, with its first or second rung missing or damaged. Despite the ladder being in perfect condition, this broken rung complicates the initial ascent. Regardless of where women find themselves in their professional journey - whether they are establishing their own families, solely focused on advancing their careers, navigating single-headed households, or taking care of their elderly parents (among other scenarios) - staying true to their beliefs and aspirations is crucial, even when faced with missing or damaged 'rungs'. That said, we cannot overlook the overall importance of cultivating leadership competencies within our sporting industry, within athletes/players and the teams behind them. The mission of EWIP (Empower Women in Politics) is clear and transformative: 1. Boosting Political Confidence: Elevating the self-assurance of women to take their rightful place in political arenas. 2. Championing Gender-Inclusive Leadership: Paving the way for leadership that respects and integrates all gender perspectives. 4. We believe that Feminist Leadership is the future. Feminists from the Global South have reconceptualized traditional forms of leadership, taking into account intersectionality and postcolonial balances of power. Over the last years, thanks in part to the work of feminist human rights organisations like CREA in India or AWID, it has started to make its way into the international social impact sector, with organisations such as ActionAid and Oxfam embracing and implementing Feminist Leadership as part of their organisational strategy. https://lnkd.in/dnmGH83 #Feminist #Leadership does not mean Women-led but rather a shift from a corporate, efficiency-focused, top-down type of leadership to a more collaborative, caring, and inclusive way of working. When men are chosen for leadership roles over women we send out the message: men are in charge, women are not. Of course, men may be right for leadership roles 50% of the time. But 95% of the time? That cannot be right. Men cannot abuse women without believing they are somehow superior. To disrupt misogyny we need to support women in leadership. This signals women are not inferior to men.
