Today's election result brings hope and an opportunity for change that will positively impact us all. Regardless of our political affiliations, it's clear that change was necessary. The new NHS Workforce Alliance RM6281 framework agreement also offers hope and a real opportunity for change. Several agencies are new to the framework, including KMI Recruitment, that bring fresh ideas to address the NHS staffing crisis. The gap between the actual need for staff and recruitment is larger than ever, a recurring seasonal challenge. As agency and trust engagement typically rise in August, I encourage Trusts to engage with new agencies on the framework. Embracing these collaborations might yield surprising results. #NHS #WorkforceAlliance #HealthcareStaffing #OpportunityForChange

The Hub celebrates the continued work of the Essential Jobs, Essential Care (EJEC) NJ Coalition, which is advocating with, and on behalf of, New Jersey's #directcare workforce. This coalition of 60+ organizations and individuals, including faculty at the Rutgers School of Social Work is focused on improving the lives of direct care workers and ensuring the sustainability of their essential work. According to the Coalition, projections show that #NewJersey will need to fill nearly 160,000 direct care jobs by 2030. The coalition is working toward three key priorities to address this workforce shortage: 1️⃣ Increasing the pipeline of direct care workers. 2️⃣ Expanding access to training to equip workers with the skills they need to thrive. 3️⃣ Streamlining regulation by moving workforce oversight under one state agency to create a universal training and credentialing system. ➡️ The EJEC NJ Coalition is open to more members! I’ve spent 26 years working with people in some of the most intense environments around. Corrections officers go through far more physically, mentally and spiritually than what people outside the world of corrections likely realize. We all know that people learn more by what they see than by what people tell them. As John Wetzel pointed out many years ago, “correction” is hidden right there in the title. The job of the field of corrections is to correct behavior. I’ve certainly dedicated my career to trying to help people move beyond judgment into understanding. I frequently say, “My job is to explain behavior, not excuse it.” The more we understand that to help people correct the course they’re on, we have to lead by example, the more we will understand that a healthy staff needs to be a priority. For too long, the emphasis in corrections has been a holding area or extended “time out.” But with what we understand now, healthy people will lead by example more effectively than those who are overwhelmed themselves. The fact is, working in corrections is incredibly difficult. For most people not in the field, they might give a quick nod acknowledging that it’s likely a difficult job; and although that’s appreciated, it’s far more difficult on a day-to-day basis than what is known. Keystone Restituere Justice Center is diving deeply into not only understanding the real challenges for staff in the field of corrections, but providing real-world solutions that meet the current field exactly where it is. Anyone in the field of crisis intervention has long known that the Chinese characters for “crisis” represent both a danger and an opportunity. The danger is in the staffing crisis, as well as with what the staff goes through - and it is profound; The opportunity now, is to apply what we understand about healthy people and what it truly means to lead by example. The time to help the staff in corrections is here. Sending everyone who sees this, and everyone who doesn’t, much peace. #correctionsEMERGENCY #corrections #PTSD #keystoneinnovation #health #wellness #leadbyexample #MuchPeace

🛑 A group of California state senators and California Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas are urging Kaiser Permanente CEO Greg Adams to take action to end a nearly 2,400-worker strike in Southern California. In a pair of letters sent last week, the representatives said Kaiser has canceled “large numbers” of behavioral health appointments since workers began striking in October, and warned the reduction in services was having an adverse impact on patient care. The representatives pushed Kaiser to resume efforts to negotiate a contract. Labor and management have not met at the bargaining table in more than seven weeks. As of Monday, no bargaining sessions were scheduled for this week, according to a spokesperson for the National Union of Healthcare Workers, which is representing the employees. #MentalHealthMatters #BehavioralHealth #HealthcareAccess #StrikeAction #PatientCare #MentalHealthAwareness #HealthEquity #HealthcareCrisis #KaiserStrike #HealthcareReform

🛡️ Safety and Retention: A Vital Connection 🛡️ We often focus on strategies like talent and leadership development, company culture, purpose and meaning, and work-life balance to improve retention. Factors like recognition and rewards, career mobility, and employee well-being are also crucial. But reading this article reminded me of another critical — yet often overlooked — factor: #Safety. Feeling physically and psychologically safe at work is fundamental to keeping employees engaged and committed. Police officer on site helps hospital retain staff: https://lnkd.in/eGbcHTgH A recent initiative at the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH) highlights this perfectly. Faced with rising incidents of violence towards staff, NSECH partnered with Northumbria Police to station an officer at the hospital each night. The result? 🔹Security staff turnover dropped from 20% in 2019 to just 3.7% in 2024. 📉 🔹Staff reported feeling safer and more supported when delivering care. 🙌 This initiative underscores an important truth: when employees feel secure, respected, and protected, they're far more likely to stay. Retention isn't just about compensation or purpose; it's also about creating an environment where employees feel safe and empowered to do their jobs effectively. #Retention #EmployeeSafety #WorkplaceWellbeing #Leadership #EmployeeEngagement #FutureOfWork

I doubt managers have so much influence and power, maybe directors and chief execs level more likely. Any and every public sector organisation should have an external only investigation completely independent from the organisation. #nhs #nhsengland #publicsector #civilservice #whishleblowers #transparency
