I am excited to see greater recognition that successful workforce development programs for our communities need to go beyond skills training and job placement. Nice work Washington State Department of Transportation! "In addition to job-specific skills, the program helps students address barriers to employment. Examples include: · Driver licenses – both written and driving testing or help reissuing lost cards; · Obtaining General Educational Development or GED transcripts/documentation; · Addressing mental or behavioral health challenges; · Partnering with local pre-apprenticeship and training programs for employment preparation certificates; · Employment preparation training such as workplace expectations, communication skills, resume workshops, and interview preparation, among other “soft” skills; · Case management support, including tips on how be successful after finding employment." #community #workforcedevelopment #infrastructurecareers
These are the type of programs that change lives! Way to go, WSDOT.

This is a useful and easy to understand report by the RAIB. The lessons extend much further than the London Underground and rail sectors. The takeaways for me include: 1. The failure to embed learning from past incidents. In many ways this is a re run of the Holland Park incident of 2013. LU introduced a training scenario that included the lessons of 2013 but it had been withdrawn within a couple of years, the staff involved in this incident did not know about Holland Park. 2. Incidents such as this one put a huge amount of pressure on staff who are expected to carry out several actions at once in a short time period against a background of escalating passenger concerns and actions. 3. Communication is vital, especially with passengers who perceive, quite understandably, an immediate serious threat. This obvious fact features in many documents and policies but making it happen requires more. I do not know if any enforcement action or prosecution is being consider by ORR or BTP. This is worth reading by everyone interested in crowds, human factors, evacuation etc. #evacuation #crowds #firesafety #humanfactors #railwaysafety #railwayaccident @martinken

Founder/COO, Practical Metals/Practical Building Systems, LLC (SDVOSB) Marine Veteran assisting clients to improve their efficiencies, productivity and bottom line.
The #1 best way to set yourself up to fail at something it to “start tomorrow”. Do things now. This is a Saturday delivery for a job that was supposed to start on Monday. This is what our client “needed”. Weather happened it didn’t. I went by on Wednesday and it was still there. Did I get upset? Bothered? Annoyed because that urgency wasn’t actually needed? Not at all. I met the customers needs at the time and they were/are thankful that we go to that level for them!! Also, I created time on Monday morning to deal with other things. Do it now!!! #practicalbuildings #practicalmetals #pemb #metalroofing #metalbuildings #steelbuildings #standingseam #standingseamroofing #clientfocusedsteelsupply #rollforming #jobsiterollforming #commercialroofingsupply

Demographically, every industry is seeing a huge wave of retirements on the horizon. Over the next few years, tens of thousands of workers will age out of the trades, and the road building and highway maintenance sector is no exception... the BC Road Builders' RoadShow gives potential job seekers a realistic feel for what it’s like to operate heavy machinery. Comprised of a 34 foot trailer with four state-of-the-art simulators, the interactive experience includes the opportunity to test out a snowplow, excavator, wheel loader, rock truck, and many other pieces of heavy equipment.

Just a day away from the grand opening of the Design-Build Green Hub, it will showcase an inclusive design development that will act as an incubator for building capacity for contractors. "It was worth the wait," says Tanya Saldivar-Ali, who recently founded Detroit Future Ops (DFO313), the social arm of AGI Construction. Their focus: workforce development in construction. The Mission is simple: level the playing field for Detroit Minority Contractors. "We want more people from our community to come through these doors," she says, her voice filled with determination. “Latinos are part of the solution to the critical need for skilled trades contractors. Southwest Detroit has been built and sustained by immigrants for decades. We have so many talented contractors who know the work but struggle with the business acumen because they have not been invited to the table. This is where DFO313 comes in. We’re here to share our network, knowledge, and experiences when going after that next contract, handling the paperwork, and ready to level up their businesses." Detroit Future Ops (DFO313) is committed to building capacity and creating opportunities for local contractors in Detroit. With a focus on empowering minority-owned businesses and fostering inclusive development, DFO313 provides hands-on training, mentorship, and resources to help Detroit contractors thrive in the competitive construction industry. #DFO313#WeBuildForTheNextGen #Detroit #DetroitFutureOps #AGIConstruction #SouthwestDetroit #HubbardRichard #DesignBuildGreenHub #Development #Latino #Workforce #Sustainability #Empowerment #Mentorship #SmallBusiness #GrindDontStop #DetroitHustlesHarder #RealTalks

If I Started Flipping from GROUND ZERO... If I Started Flipping from GROUND ZERO... If I was left broke with no contacts here is what I would do. 1) Find an active jobsite and tell them I would do the grossest jobs for a bid price. 2) I would take that money to buy a phone and a skip traced list of absentee owner houses (owner doesn't live there). 3) Then I would do the things outlined in this video.
