I sacrificed my mental health through multiple seasons of Love is Blind for this article. Please, make it worth my time. 😂 Reality TV isn’t just about people yelling at each other—it's the music making you feel everything. From Kitchen Nightmares making you cry over a burnt steak to Love is Blind turning awkward pauses into drama, it’s the soundtrack that makes us care (for some reason). 🎶 So, yeah... click it. I need validation. 🙏 #SonicBranding #RealityTV #MusicMarketing #EmotionalManipulation #MarketingTips #Branding

Who remembers the OK GO videos from the noughties? Probably some of the original viral videos, back on a really small video sharing site called YouTube. It was a time where mainstream broadcast music channels were moving their schedules to reality tv. So a band decided to break from the tried and tested, received platform norms (y’know, do a music video where all the band members are “playing live” in front of a crowd). And to this day the minute I see any seconds of this, I know immediately who did it. So, what’s my point here? If your brand keeps following content style norms that other brands are doing well - not just trends - but where you pull your references from, looking left and right to other brands and not to external inputs, then the bigger risk is getting confused for someone else. If you strike out and do your totally own thing - or trust your creator squad to do that, then it’s a much more ownable space. Not just on social. On everything. It’s also 20 years old next year (nooooo)!

There’s a lot of talk about how wide and complex culture is becoming, with more music genres, artists, TV shows, and narratives than ever before. But the truth is that, despite having more options at our disposal, we’re actually choosing less. A super interesting article on how we’re narrowing culture in cinema, music, books, and other creative fields... Adam mentions some of the possible reasons for this: 1. The fast pace of modern life has led media giants to focus on large-scale, high-budget productions like blockbusters, reinforcing their dominance and contributing to cultural narrowing. 2.Over time, big media companies outcompete or absorb smaller ones, leaving fewer producers and narrowing the focus to superstars and blockbusters. 3.In their attempt to maintain attention, major players adopt a strategy centered on rapid production cycles. 4.With endless options available, audiences rely on familiar cues to reduce decision fatigue and avoid risk, opting for sequels, franchises, or known creators.

I started a media company in Austin Here’s some inspiration I’ve taken from MTV… 📺 MTV began as a channel that exclusively featured music videos but their eventual variety became a staple of my youth. By shifting from a focus on music videos to a focus on engaging their audience, MTV was able to capture an eclectic mix of interests through new topics and formats. 👀 Award shows… live events… original programming… feature films… Oh, and they were pioneers of modern reality TV As a media company, MTV has shown me two things are possible: 𝟏. Starting with sharing one type of TV content and expanding to producing many ↳ Doing it while serving a 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤 audience that has 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝 interests AustinZone, as a media company, is like MTV in some ways: 💡 Like MTV, AustinZone is focused on serving a specific audience ⚠ MTV serves a demographic (ages 18-34), AustinZone serves a region 👉 Our audience is made up of the 2.4 million residents of greater Austin, visitors to the area, and the people who love the city from afar 💡 Like MTV, AustinZone will share one type of content then grow to produce many ⚠️ MTV didn’t initially plan to expand, AustinZone has grand ambitions 👉 We want to make all kinds of content for the various interests of people in and around Austin so we'll start by sharing what the people are already creating 💡 Like MTV, AustinZone will broadcast content 24/7 ⚠️ MTV was on cable TV in 1982, we’re starting with the power of the Internet 👉 AustinZone’s YouTube channel, @AustinZoneVIP, will launch a 24/7 live stream that plays Austin content all the time like a local TV station on the most watched streaming platform We’ll get from start to goal in three stages: ➊ Aggregation: Work with Austin area YouTube creators and video makers ➋ Curation: Showcase content within context to engage interests ➌ Creation: Produce original content with Austin area creators, businesses, and local experts We're in the Aggregation stage now, have partnered with several creators, and are ready to launch with a block of videos that updates weekly Your help would be greatly appreciated - and it’s WAY EASIER to help than you might think All we need right now… Is your subscription to the AustinZoneVIP YouTube channel We should be able to go live when the channel reaches 50 subscribers Will you help us launch by being one of the first to subscribe? Two significant shifts have transformed the landscape for books, music, and visual media. Firstly, the disappearance of shelf space and broadcast schedules has created unlimited room for content at all times. Secondly, the cost of producing and sharing work in these media has plummeted to zero, enabling anyone to create videos or songs. This phenomenon has led to the long tail continuing to extend, challenging the notion of a cultural center and the shared experiences within our circles. #Mediaindustry #ContentCreation #DigitalShifts

2moThe UK version of "Love Is Blind" is a real masterclass in musical storytelling. It combines good taste with the efficient use of music. By the way, Netflix reality shows are different from those produced by TV broadcasters. Since they don’t need to overstuff their programs to prevent viewers from switching channels, they focus even more on deep and sincere emotional amplification. Thanks MassiveMusic for this interesting article!
