When you get to work with your own daughter...
Sure, I've seen my daughter Chase Carpenter in action. I've seen how her smile and positive energy can draw people in. I've watched her rally groups of young women, whether it's for pure fun and community development, or it's for a purpose-driven event, meant to move the needle. She's an organized, efficient, and magnetic leader.
So you may imagine my pride getting to work alongside her this past summer at The Lola.
The Lola is a vibrant, women's community space where I've been co-working for the past year and a half. I've also contributed some work to The LOLA team, helping Dana Xavier Dojnik with project management processes and content marketing; starting and co-leading a weekly accountability group with Melissa Uppelschoten, now led by superstar Qiana Avery, SHRM-CP; and co-facilitating the monthly, in-person Founders & Freelancers group with the incomparable energy-shifter Kafi London. In short, being part of The LOLA community has been my jam.
When The LOLA accepted Chase as an intern last spring, I knew she'd fit right in. She understood the assignment: to help support the powerful network of inclusive, female entrepreneurs and women in business who want to build a life and career in which we are constantly growing, thriving and succeeding.
It's exciting to see young women realize and embrace their own power. It makes me wish I knew what they already know when I was in my 20s! But it was a different time and we were ALL different people. :)
I'm excited to keep my focus on what's ahead for all of us. Because women - young, mid-life and wise - will change the world.
Established women in business and emerging female leaders: if you haven't felt it yet, lean in. And lean in HARD, because our time is NOW.

What do you do at UH Ventures in one sentence?
- I've been interning with Matthew Zenker and the new UH Haslam Sports Innovation Center with their incoming deal flow. I research, analyze, and compile a variety of data and information to assess sports-medicine and health companies/markets to help accelerate and invest in them. I'm also working on the upcoming SportsLand event with Patricia Colella, MBA, by helping out in all areas of event management.
What are your favorite things to do outside of school?
- I love to exercise and try new workouts, but more importantly, I love to eat. During COVID, I began cooking and baking as a way to unwind; I try to make a meal four times a week. My favorite dish to make is my grandfather’s shrimp and pea risotto.
Favorite binge-worthy TV show?
- The Office. I have seen The Office over five times and I can quote certain scenes by heart!
What is your favorite restaurant in Cleveland?
- Batuqui; a fun Brazilian summer dinner spot.
What do you love about Cleveland?
- I was born and raised all around Cleveland, and throughout my time, there has been one constant: the people. Everyone from Cleveland has a unique and inspiring story, and I love meeting people from around the world.

Happy National Intern Day! We celebrate our 2024 interns and thank you for all you've contributed and accomplished this summer. These young professionals have been learning what it takes to be the leaders of tomorrow and documenting their hands-on experience.
Check out Lily Ecker, Caden Edelbrock, Josephine Shaw and Dillon Barnes's stories in the second episode of our 'Meet the Intern' series!
In this video, we witness a young child participating in an internship program, where she is learning how to deliver a baby as a gynecologist intern. While some may question the appropriateness of such an experience for a child, it is crucial to acknowledge that those who harbor such doubts are often constrained by a limited mindset that hinders their financial success.
At an early age, we nurtured Kennedi and Caden as entrepreneurs, laying the groundwork for their future success. By exposing them to diverse experiences and offering guidance from a young age, we instilled the confidence and skills needed to run six-figure companies.
To break the cycle of financial struggle and pave the way for generational wealth, it is vital to embrace new opportunities and expose both ourselves and our children to unconventional paths to success. Only by being open-minded and proactive in seeking out new experiences can we elevate ourselves from financial constraints and reach new heights of prosperity.
You'll see in this video Kennedi (at 12 years old) shadowed her pediatrician as well as chiropractor and a dear friend of ours Dr Sheva Quinn 12-year-old daughter shadowed her veterinarian today. Early exposure is key 🔥

Professional Reducer. Planning and Investing for Legacy Builders + Legacy Preservers at Sunpointe Investments. Personal Archive Advocate at Cultish Creative.
It's almost summer internship season - how much are you thinking about multigenerational communication?
(non-spoiler, but there's a Sunpointe Investments angle on this because we spend so much time looking up and down the generational ladder with clients, that I'm always extra amused by how wide our age spread is in our small team. it's reflective. Mental note to ask Jack Dwyer, CFA, CAIA if expanding to 4 decades of thinking was on purpose.)
BACK TO INTERNS, and multi-generational colleagues, and maybe even family. You know what's the worst? Coasting.
And Lindsey Bell just told guy penn and I where it comes from.
"Coasting" comes from a lack of identity.
When you're miserable, when your identity isn't tied to "owning" your work, you coast.
You step back, and you don't care what happens.
Want good interns? Want good multigenerational relationships - at work or within your family?
Don't coast. Don't let them coast. Don't let yourself coast.
Own it. Own fostering fulfillment, purpose, and authenticity. Own the whole vibe around the proverbial table you're setting.
Those summer interns deserve an amazing experience.
So do those older and younger colleagues of yours.
Figure out how to make tying some identity to the ownership of the experiences you share, on your way to making things better.
(I have to share this clip. It's from "The Shifting Future of Work" episode of Just Press Record on the Cultish Creative YouTube channel)
We were eager to know, what's been the biggest piece of information or skill our interns have learned so far this summer! 🤔 We think their responses were great!! Let us know what you think. #NationalInternDay
