Applications for the 2025 MassRobotics Accelerator open today! This is a unique program with a refined focus on hardware robotics, allowing us to deeply support our startups. Our mentors, speakers, and programming are specifically tailored to help technical founders build their business skills. This accelerator is an equity-free program. Thanks to our forward-thinking partnership with Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, we provide each company with $100,000 in non-dilutive capital. Eligibility requirements: - Early-stage, pre-seed to seed-stage robotics companies with a hardware focus, component, or application (any industry) - Companies must demonstrate strong leadership with a proven track record - Companies must be incorporated, with the founding team working on this full-time - Founders must be ready and willing to learn from an engaged robotics community and expert mentors - Preference will be given to Massachusetts-based companies. Companies from outside Massachusetts must demonstrate a willingness and ability to keep all or part of their operations in Massachusetts for at least 1 year post-accelerator graduation. I met an AI founder who just closed a $100M Series C— but he had to bootstrap for 20 years. His #1 regret? Trusting conventional wisdom—not his gut: Daniel sells AI robots to companies like Walmart, FedEx, & DHL. There are 100s of his robots in the wild, moving pallets in warehouses. His company has done $10s of millions in sales. He got there by doing things differently. 1/ He bootstrapped for 20 years through grants & large government projects. It took longer, but it meant more ownership, more control, and less downside. 2/ He built a robot that worked only 80% of the time & relied on human intervention for edge cases— instead of trying to build a perfect robot like everyone else. It was harder to scale, but faster to market— & it actually worked. 3/ He sold robots-as-a-service before it was cool. His industry pushed back. They were used to buying & owning equipment— now most of sales are as-a-service. I asked him what advice he would give his younger self: “Unambiguously, trust your gut.” “I made some mistakes by allowing…less inspired people convince me of things.” “You've done the work to figure out how the world works.” “Don't let somebody else who's less inspired than you convince you to do something different than you believe is right.” /// Listen to the full episode on The Product Market Fit Show #startups #venturecapital #founders
