🌟 Exciting News in Historical Preservation and Recognition 🌟 U.S. Senators James Lankford (R-Okla.) and Cory Booker (D-N.J.) have taken a significant step in honoring American history. They've introduced a bipartisan bill to designate the Historic Greenwood District in North Tulsa, Oklahoma, as a national monument. This area, known as the original Black Wall Street, was the site of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, a pivotal event in our nation’s history. 📜 The Greenwood District represents not just a dark chapter in our past but also embodies the resilience and entrepreneurial spirit of the African American community. The proposed national monument designation is not just a gesture of remembrance, but it's also a commitment to preserving and educating future generations about the richness and complexity of American history. 💡 This initiative by Senators Lankford and Booker underscores the importance of acknowledging all facets of our history, learning from them, and building a future that respects and honors our diverse heritage. 🙏 I commend this move towards recognizing Greenwood's historical significance and reinforcing the message that even the most painful parts of our history must be remembered and honored. #History #Preservation #BlackWallStreet #GreenwoodDistrict #NationalMonument #Legislation

DID YOU KNOW? New York City’s historic armories can be seen all around the city, and are currently used for all kinds of purposes in addition to some that retain their original function. They were built between the 18th and 20th centuries for New York State volunteer militia, serving as storage of arms and housing. These monumental fortresses were meant to remind the public of the military’s might and ability to maintain domestic law. Thankfully for us, the militia took great care in designing their fortresses and we have been left with remarkable armories that remind us of an important time in our city’s history. Some still function as National Guard posts, but many have been repurposed since the mid-20th century. 📷 Pictured is an armory right in our backyard. Rose Hill Armory Hall, Fordham University Rose Hill Campus [Built in 1838] Rose Hill Armory Hall at Fordham University in the Bronx dates back to when the university was known as St. John’s College. This building is the second Rose Hill Manor House, which contained an armory inside. The second manor house replaced an earlier one which according to legend was a headquarters for George Washington during the American Revolution. Today, it houses Campus Administration for Fordham. Lothrop Associates Architects has partnered with Fordham University on projects throughout the campus. We are a full-service architectural and interior design firm that has been servicing the higher education institutional market for more than 50 years. Clients include SUNY Westchester Community College, State University of New York at Plattsburgh, State University of New York Cortland, Columbia University, Sarah Lawrence College, State University of New York Maritime College, and Baruch College ... just to name a few. #architecture #design #historic

While the Detroit Masonic Temple has a rich historical and architectural significance, there isn’t a specific horror history associated with the building itself. However, the surrounding Cass Corridor neighborhood has experienced its share of urban legends, eerie tales, and darker moments over the years. Urban Legends: Some locals claim that the temple’s secret tunnels connect it to other nearby buildings, including the Cass Technical High School. These tunnels supposedly served various purposes, from clandestine meetings to transporting goods during Prohibition. However, there’s no concrete evidence to support these legends, and they likely fall into the realm of folklore. Neighborhood History: The Cass Corridor has a complex past. It was once a vibrant area with theaters, shops, and cultural venues. However, by the mid-20th century, it faced urban decay, poverty, and crime. During the 1960s and '70s, the neighborhood struggled with issues like drug addiction, abandoned buildings, and social unrest. It gained a reputation for being rough and dangerous. While the area has seen revitalization in recent years, some remnants of its troubled past linger in local memory. Notable Events: The Cass Corridor Murders in the 1970s were a series of unsolved homicides that occurred in the neighborhood. These remain a chilling part of Detroit’s history. The Devil’s Night tradition, where arsonists set fires on the night before Halloween, was particularly prevalent in Detroit during the late 20th century. The Cass Corridor was no exception. While the Masonic Temple itself lacks a horror history, the Cass Corridor neighborhood has seen its share of intriguing and sometimes unsettling stories.

Founder of Emi's Elevators 501c3 Status: 170(b)(1)(A)(vi). Founder of Nokes Mountain Elevator Benefit Company.
In response to this article on elevator construction, regulation, labor, and immigration, I believe a viable solution lies in a business model that leverages the strengths of a 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) designated 501c3 organization in conjunction with a benefit elevator company. Our nonprofit Emi's Elevator, which is the majority owner of Nokes Mountain Elevator Company, aims to address these issues by creating Small, Women-owned, and Minority-owned (SWAM) businesses and job opportunities through targeted apprenticeship programs. Our mission focuses specifically on public, low-income, and subsidized housing sectors, where there is a significant need for the maintenance, servicing, modernization, and new installation of elevator infrastructure. By prioritizing the creation of skilled jobs and fostering entrepreneurship within these underserved housing communities, we can alleviate labor shortages and contribute to economic development. Our approach ensures that workers receive the necessary training and support, promoting a sustainable workforce equipped to meet the demands of the elevator industry. In addition to our focus on housing, we also address elevator infrastructure needs in public facilities, including military bases, rehabilitation centers, hospitals, and other essential public institutions. Ensuring reliable and efficient elevator systems in these facilities not only improves operational efficiency and safety but also supports the well-being of the communities they serve. Moreover, by focusing on the maintenance and modernization of elevator infrastructure in public and subsidized housing, we can contribute to lowering housing costs. Efficient and reliable elevator systems reduce the overall maintenance costs for housing authorities, which can translate into lower rents and fees for residents. Additionally, by creating job opportunities and fostering economic growth within these communities, we help residents achieve financial stability, further reducing the economic pressures associated with housing costs. Through this integrated business model, we not only enhance the quality and safety of elevator systems in both housing and public facilities but also drive social impact by empowering marginalized groups, fostering community resilience, and contributing to more affordable housing and better public services.
Stephen Jacob Smith, founder and executive director of the Center for Building in North America, used the elevator to explain why housing costs have skyrocketed, among other woes, in a guest essay for The New York Times https://lnkd.in/eXVw38N6

"Why there are two New Yorks and two Washingtons in the USA and what is the difference between them? Everyone knows about New York, a famous city with world-renowned landmarks and boroughs, but few people know that the city is located in a state also called New York. To avoid confusion, the city is referred to as New York City to indicate that it is the city not the state. Interestingly, New York City occupies only 4% of the entire state of New York, but this small area is home to 40% of the state population. New York City, and the state of the New York, even have different governments . The city has its own miniciplal government while the state has its own government based in Albany. A similar situation exists with Washington. There is the city of Washington, which is the capital of the USA and home to the White House and the Capitol. There is also the state of Washigton located on the west coast of the USA and the state government based in Olympia. To avoid confusion with the state, the city is called Washington DC, which stands for District of Columbia." Fonte: geoglobe_tales @projetomemoria #projetomemoria
