Good insight!

When I was in my early 20’s, closer to the time I moved from my small town to the bustling capital of New Delhi, I realised I wanted to grow old. Around the time I reached adulthood, I wanted to blow my candles quick! I wanted to be in my 40’s. 20 years back, I didn’t see youth as a privilege. I saw it as a grind. I was hustling. I wanted that hustle that move to the next stage where I didn’t have to prove myself. I had seen my college seniors and then older colleagues at work, many of them women who seemed more in control of their lives, their minds and their presence. I wanted that poise. That confidence to be myself in my skin. To be a contributor. To have a mind of her own. To be heard. To be available for someone younger. To be a support to another woman or even a man in work or in life. To be something. To be someone! Now, in my 40’s, I’m also grateful for the youth that didn’t create a mirage of my own worth. I wasn’t trapped in my love for my youth. I love ageing. I love my greys, my wrinkles and everything else. I came late to the fitness party. And that’s the only small niggle I carry. Maybe I could have started a decade earlier. But then, when I look at my own story…of someone struggling to win against time, find purpose and push my own boundaries, my mental fitness was my primary priority. As workplaces grow and swell, it’s important to have these conversations. I can imagine insecurities, doubts and ideas of longevity can step into the best of us. As workforces change, let’s look at what do we mean by ‘prime’. Let’s talk about ageism. Wisdom. Experience. Let’s talk about how can we create inter-generational conversations at home, at work and everywhere else! Our stories are a work in progress. How we see it is more important than how we tell it. Help us celebrate 90 YEARS of LMCU! 90 years...it is so easy to think "wow that is a long time" and leave it at that. But, if you think about the events that have happened within the most recent 90 years it is quite remarkable that LMCU not only survived but THRIVED during the events that have take place. To look at even the most brief summary of the events of the last 90 years is incredible: Beginning in 1933, Grand Rapids Teachers Credit Union started with a group of teachers pooling funds to create comfort in the face of the uncertainty of the national bank closures of the great depression. 1940s: Great Depression Recovery, World War II, Color TV, 1st Automatic Car 1950s: Korean War, Baby Boom, Disposable Diapers, Plastic Garbage Bags 1960s: USA has 50 States, Increase in Racial Unrest, Civil Rights Act, Berlin Wall Built 1970s: Vietnam War Begins, Drug Culture Growing 1980s: Economic Recession, U.S Captives in Iran, Computers Replacing Typewriters, Computer Games Introduced (PacMan), Berlin Wall Torn Down 1990s: Cold War Ends, Largest Complete T-Rex Skeleton Found, Hubble Telescope Launched 2000s: New Millennium, Terrorist Assult of the U.S.S Cole in Yemen, Mad Cow Disease Rampant in Europe 2010s: Germany Pays Final Reparations from WWI, First Black President in Office, First Appearance of Wikileaks, H1N1 Virus No Longer a Threat, Tallest Building Build in Dubai 2020s: Impeachment of Donald Trump, Covid-19, Killing Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and Countless Others (whose names are equally important https://lnkd.in/gbapBpmb. ) Spark International Protests, Record Breaking Heatwaves, Simultaneous Hurricanes Hit Texas Coast and Hawaii, Two Tropical Disturbances Hit Gulf of Mexico 2 Days Apart, Wildfires Plague American West, Significant Coin Shortage It would be impossible to name all of the important things that have happened but, through it all...LMCU has remained a fixture in it's communities (See it's History Here: https://lnkd.in/ggy9Repc ) What the next 90 years holds is a mystery...but LMCU is up for the challenge!
