https://lnkd.in/dWGgGT4x WANT TO KNOW SOMETHING Biocide antifoul is a coating applied to the hulls of boats to prevent the growth of organisms on the surface. However, the biocides can leak into the water and harm marine life. Therefore, it is important to find alternative solutions that are eco-friendly and sustainable. One possible solution is to use non-toxic antifoul coatings, such as silicone-based coatings, which are known to be effective and environmentally friendly. However, these coatings are more expensive than traditional ones, and the companies need to find ways to make them more affordable. Another solution is to develop new technologies to prevent the growth of organisms on the hulls. Some companies are currently researching ultrasound or bacteria-based solutions that could be used as alternatives to traditional biocides. Therefore, the most important thing to do in 2024 regarding biocide antifoul in marine sustainability would be to encourage the research and development of sustainable alternative solutions and work towards their implementation in the industry. It is T-3 Months until the most challenging single-handed, non-stop, non-assisted round-the-world sailing race Vendée Globe starts in France. Last year we got to meet Oliver Heer, one of the 40 sailors qualified to undertake this immense challenge, and we were genuinely impressed by his determination, commitment, and personality – which led to HQAM becoming an official team partner of the #OHOR campaign. What is equally important is that both HQAM and Oliver Heer Ocean Racing take #ESG matters to heart. It is impressive to see how far continuous improvement can go when all its principles are applied at all levels of an institution with a perfect understanding of the needs of the customer to be served. Cantiere del Pardo is proud to officially present the new Grand Soleil Blue, the Grand Soleil 33 feet Daysailer Zero Impact: a revolutionary model for the nautical sector, which consists of a 10 meters sailing boat, designed to have zero impact during navigation and to be recycled in all its parts thanks to the innovative use of a thermoplastic resin. The Grand Soleil Blue project is the result of a synergetic collaboration between nautical experts and innovators in the field of sustainable materials. This boat is not only a step forward in technological innovation but represents a new chapter in the history of boating, where sustainability, efficiency, and design come together to create a greener future at sea. The project is co-financed by the Emilia-Romagna region as part of the PR-ERDF 2021/2027 program – Action 1.1.1 – Call for experimental research and development projects.
