NEWS from Material Matters: New fair launched as part of 3daysofdesign 2025. Material Matters Copenhagen will take place 18-20 June within the extraordinary Gammel Dok building, in the heart of the city’s Christianshavn district (pictured). The canal-side building, highly visible from the city centre, has views across the skyline of Copenhagen. It will be an essential destination for 3daysofdesign that echos the area’s history of trade and craft with a focus on materials, techniques and making. Boasting two floors of dedicated exhibition space, the venue – once the home to the Danish Architecture Foundation – is a 5-10 minute walk from the ferry, metro, or bus, and sits along easy bikeways from Nyhavn and the Christianshavn Canal. The fair will present 10+ brands, each with a distinct material story to illustrate the importance of material intelligence and how it will play a role in shaping our lives over the coming decades. Importantly, there are a variety of spaces to suit a range of budgets. ‘We are so excited to be launching this sparkling new event at one of our favourite design festivals, in a city we enjoy and in a wonderful venue,’ say Material Matters co-founders Grant Gibson and William Knight. ‘The London fair has been running successfully for three years now and it feels the right time to talk to a new audience. We co-hosted a conference during 3daysofdesign at Copenhagen Contemporary in 2023 which proved to be hugely popular, so we know there’s an audience keen to learn more about materials. It seems to be the perfect fit for us.’ Get in touch if you'd like to be part of Material Matters Copenhagen via hello@materialmatters.design Material Matters London will take place as part of the London Design Festival 17-20 September. #materialmatters #3daysofdesign #copenhagen #materialintelligence #design #architecture #materials #designfair

We are thrilled to announce that next year’s venue for the World Design Congress will be… 🥁 🥁 🥁…at the landmark Barbican Centre ✨ 🏛️ --- Recognised worldwide for its iconic brutalist architecture, the Barbican was chosen by the Design Council as the London venue due to its renowned design status and current focus on improving sustainability. --- As our CEO, Minnie Moll puts it, "Both London and the Barbican represent the height of creativity, inspiration and design, which is why they are the perfect choice for the 2025 Congress.” --- Our theme for next year is #DesignForPlanet 🌿, which aims to spur the 1.97 million people working in the UK to design their way to net zero. As outlined in our latest report, over 71% of designers think that the demand for eco-design will grow in the next three years, but only 43% feel adequately equipped to meet this demand. Organised by World Design Organization the two-day event will bring together the global design community alongside business leaders, researchers, and educators to tackle this critical design issue alongside other pressing concerns. --- In preparation for the Congress, we will be working with the Centre on the Barbican Renewal. This sustainable two-year project will radically revitalise the arts centre’s existing underused spaces for new and improved creative use. --- Stay tuned for updates and ticket information. At the recent IAAPA Expo Europe Conference, I presented the delicate balance between honoring heritage and embracing progress. I started to take a look at Notre Dame de #Paris as an example. After the devastating fire, architects & designers envisioned innovative ways to rebuild while preserving the monument's iconic spirit. Here are some of the proposed concepts: 🏛️ Same as original: as a religious monument, the most straightforward approach was to rebuild the original structure. 🗼 Modernize the spire: Replace the spire with a new, iconic design that would enhance the monument's status as a global symbol. ⚖️ Rebuild the spire but re-imagine the roof by rebuilding the wooden spire as before, while replacing the lost roof with a see-through structure. 🌿 Sustainability: following a trend by including a rooftop garden that would span the entire length of the cathedral and its crossing. ❓In your opinion, which project most effectively combines tradition and innovation? ✨ If you're looking for a creative partner in themed entertainment, to bring your ideas to life, let's connect! I'm always open to new opportunities and collaborations. #Innovation #Tradition #Design #Future #NotreDame

Arkkitehdit NRT has successfully renovated Alvar Aalto's iconic Finlandia Hall, originally designed in 1971 for diverse events. This revitalization balances respect for Aalto's visionary design while introducing modern amenities and additional spaces, making it more accessible to both locals and tourists. As a designer, I often reflect on how crucial it is to preserve cultural heritage while adapting to contemporary needs. This project is an exemplary case of harmonizing the old with the new. Have you been involved in projects where heritage meets innovation? What challenges and successes did you experience? The renovation included the restoration of Aalto's original furnishings and improvements to the building's functionality. New features such as a restaurant, wine bar, and exhibition space have transformed Finlandia Hall into a vibrant leisure destination for everyone. Studies show that accessible cultural spaces can significantly improve community engagement and tourism. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the balance between preserving architectural history and embracing modern functionality. Where do you draw the line between renovation and preservation in your own work? #rendimension #hugoramirezarchitect #renderings #vrtraining www.rendimension.com Full article "Arkkitehdit NRT renovates Alvar Aalto's Finlandia Hall in Helsinki" Link: https://lnkd.in/gsjP55jW

**My Experience as a Jury Panelist at ACETECH Exhibition 2024: A Full-Circle Journey** ✨Life often takes us on journeys that come full circle, and my experience at the ACETECH Exhibition 2024 has been nothing short of that. 🌿Years ago, as a wide-eyed architecture student, I roamed these very exhibition halls, soaking in inspiration from the innovative designs, ambitious projects, and creative visionaries I aspired to be like one day. Fast forward to today, I found myself returning—not as a spectator, but as a proud jury panelist for the prestigious **Grand Stands Awards**. ✨The transition from a curious student to a professional with a seat at the jury table was humbling and exhilarating. Walking into the event as a panelist, I couldn’t help but reflect on the countless hours of hard work, late nights, and unwavering passion that shaped my journey. The Grand Stands Awards celebrate excellence in exhibition design, rewarding creativity, functionality, and innovation—a perfect representation of the architectural and design ethos I hold close to my heart. ✨As a jury member, my role was no longer just to admire but to critically evaluate. Each stand told a story—of brands striving to push boundaries, designers blending art and commerce seamlessly, and a collective effort to make spaces that captivate and connect. The responsibility of choosing the best was challenging, given the remarkable talent and ideas on display. ✨This experience wasn’t just about judging designs; it was a profound moment of personal growth and realization. Revisiting ACETECH from a different lens reminded me of how far I’ve come and how the seeds of inspiration planted during my student days have blossomed into a rewarding career. It also motivated me to continue striving for excellence while encouraging the next generation of architects and designers to dream big. ✨Being part of ACETECH Exhibition 2024 as a jury panelist for the Grand Stands Awards was not just an honor—it was a milestone, a celebration of the journey that has shaped me, and a reminder of the limitless possibilities that await when passion meets perseverance. #acetecexhibition #grandstandawards #architecture #interior #achivements Do you believe in manifestation share your experience 👇

Random highlight from yesterday's munich creative business week Design Summit: Stefan Boerie's presentation featured a photo of Hundertwasser holding a tree in Milan. This moment was captured during the Milan Triennial in 1973, where Hundertwasser planted 15 trees within apartments — an impactful initiative known as the 'tree tenant demonstration.' Excited to see what's in store for Munich... #MCBW #DesignSummit #Hundertwasser #UrbanGreenery"

Stoane reuses exhibition stand at LIGHT 24 Sustainable luminaire maker Stoane Lighting is to reuse its stand at the LIGHT 24 exhibition in London. It will be the third year in a row in which it has deployed the rebuildable construction at the Building Design Centre. The move demonstrates to potential customers the firm’s environmental ethos and consistency in its values. The trend is also affecting international shows such as the Light + Building exhibition in Frankfurt.
