However, the intricate nature of a tree's structure adds layers of complexity. Firstly, wood harvested from a single tree varies in consistency depending on its stage of growth. In addition, despite its usefulness, wood tends to absorb moisture, which poses a challenge, especially in construction applications where moisture is problematic. Protecting wood from the elements is paramount, requiring the application of varnish, paint, or stain for protection, as well as diligent maintenance to ensure its longevity. Thinking through an IWI approach using inboard studs, creating a box for cellulose against a stone wall. Don't worry, am talking to sensible ppl about the moisture issues, basically the cellulose provides a large moisture buffer...but may require greater or lesser vapour control on warm side - being explored. Meanwhile am considering various practicalities of stiffening the studs back to the old wall behind the cellulose. Simplest seems to be stud offcuts, 'glued to the wall face as shown' using some sort of 'grab' adhesive. Experimenting with old concrete block, timber pieces and something from B&Q!

Construction has many layers. More layers = more materials, more labour, more waste and more trades (often wet trades) - even if there is a bunch of carbon in all that pink framing. What if we could strip some of these layers out? Naked #SIPs can be used as internal wall linings all by themselves. Let's have a closer look at the compliance of the following systems - FC392, FC729, FC728, FC393. COMPLIANCE: The Assessment of the Protecta Naked Wall system was conducted based on four full-scale tests. An IANZ-accredited lab analyzed material differences in AUS/NZ and the UK markets and focused on conservative variations of the systems such as: - increase in the thickness of the wall - increase in thickness of component materials - introduction of additional non-combustible linings for cosmetic purposes - increase in timber density - use of the equivalent or higher grade of timber stud - removal of outer studs and top/bottom plates when boards are installed directly against concrete walls or floors - variation approved for use in Europe as well. INTERESTING FACT: In Europe, all fire-rated systems are always certified through full-scale testing.
