Over 50 world-leading brands, designers, makers, and manufacturers showcased how materials, when thoughtfully used and reused, can shape our future. This project delves into the fluid and ever-changing nature of identity, drawing parallels between the transient qualities of reflections and our evolving sense of self. We designed and crafted furniture exclusively using recyclable paper, merging sustainability with creativity to highlight impermanence and adaptability. While I could of course tell you about the comfort and timeless design of our latest product #Mikado, I would rather point to the fact that this product was designed and manufactured with #environmental consciousness being front and center of every step. The result is a great example of how we at #Vitra use #sustainability as an opportunity to re-think everything. As a result, Mikado does not only come with Vitra's above-average quality, but it is completely #modular down to the smallest screw. Nothing is stapled or glued and the chair is made from more than 60% recycled content and is fully recyclable (except for the PU-foam, but we are working on that ;)). This modularity also makes it perfectly suited for circular business models, since it can be easily repaired and is thus inherently made for a very long life in potentially multiple places. Congratulations especially to my colleagues in product development for this outstanding result, Gregor Umbricht. I believe this makes for a perfect example to showcase our environmental mission and how we work every day to get there through the power of #design.

For any business that designs products this is a great way to demonstrate the carbon footprint of the product to potential buyers. For all designers, going through the process to achieve an ecolabel can help to improve the circularity of your designs as well as reducing its carbon footprint.
