These structures can provide immediate relief by offering rapid housing solutions. Another application of this method and construction tool is in housing and facilities in areas where the demand for accommodation and shelter is increasing due to various reasons such as migration and relocation. 🏗️🧱

Topological optimization makes it possible to create lighter parts, without degrading performance. You only use material where you need it! Thanks to 3D printing, it is now possible to manufacture these parts, which often have a complex geometry. However, these structures have one problem: they vibrate a lot! This can lead to a number of problems, including outright part failure. Dr. Claude Humbert and his colleagues at CiSMAT have just published the results of their work, which aims to develop passive solutions for damping the vibration modes of lightweight structures. The designed, manufactured and experimentally tested solutions are based on the acoustic black hole principle. The work was published in Engineering Research Express (IoP).
