🌎 Let's Get Nerdy 😎 What are the top generative AI-based sustainable material advancements I know of? Metals. Functional Plastic. Soft and Liquid Plastic Alternatives. Smell. Data. Here are the companies you should follow: 👩🔬Soft and Liquid Plastics - Ginkgo Bioworks, Inc. Their organism engineering platform integrates AI and robotics to automate biological processes, enabling the programming of cells for diverse applications in food, medicine, cosmetics, agriculture, and materials. WATCH: https://lnkd.in/g-rWXcxp 🧫Functional Plastic - Materiom They provide an open-access database and AI-powered tools to support scientists, producers, and brands in creating sustainable materials from abundant natural ingredients. Their collaborative platform is accelerating critical materials development. WATCH: https://lnkd.in/gfDejZ_4 🤘Metal - Comstock Inc. Quantum Generative Materials (GenMat) I met this team at the Wall Street Green Summit back in March. A key blocker to material recyclability is the wide range of recipes that we use as well as the lack of data carried downstream. I appreciate that this company thinks of metals holistically, from piloting next-gen mining innovation to minimize impact to standing up an urban mining operation, and then getting into the data behind material design for recyclability. WATCH: https://lnkd.in/gGiebJbF 👃Smell - OXMAN I included smell because while it's made of particles we can still think of air as a material, and this is a MAJOR element of our existence that has been ignored for too long. They ask: "Can smells encode signals of biodiversity and resilience? Can we simulate, revive, restore and rewild ancient ecosystems, while designing novel ones?" EXPLORE: https://lnkd.in/gDaWC6XX 🤖Data - mindful MATERIALS Their innovative Sustainable Product Data Hub utilizes machine learning to standardize and integrate diverse data, enabling seamless access to holistic product sustainability information across the building industry. By developing a common language and tracking market signals, they can become the backbone of the sustainable building materials industry and beyond! EXPLORE: https://lnkd.in/gRAzhjSy Why am I so stoked about all this? I started my career as an industrial design engineer to help companies make more sustainable product design choices. Back then, this information either didn't exist, existed as estimation tables in a Life Cycle Assessment brick of a book, or in Material Safety Data Sheets. You had to literally travel the world and go find the people making the things. The original iteration of Anim8 Collective (2018-2019) was started to solve this supply chain decision-making and material intelligence challenge but it was too early to market. Excited to see this progress! 📸 Image by DALLE
