Focusing on Horizon 2020 initiatives such as SoBigData++ and TAILOR, we investigate the application of ethical principles within these projects. These projects not only advance specialized research but also aim to equip domain experts with the requisite knowledge and tools for ethical data and AI management. The presentation provides insights into the objectives and methodologies of SoBigData++ and TAILOR, with a specific focus on their ethical dimensions. Emphasis is placed on the challenges encountered and the solutions developed to foster Trustworthy AI, ensuring that AI systems incorporate safeguards to make them reliable, safe, transparent, and respectful of privacy, while also adhering to the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) and FACT (Fairness, Accuracy, Confidentiality, and Transparency) principles. On Friday 23rd the UN Statistical Commission will begin discussing how it can improve data governance in countries and also contribute to efforts to improve global data governance. The Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) released a follow up study on the transparency of foundation model developers: The Foundation Model Transparency Index. https://lnkd.in/gy2vQ6tP The initial study was conducted in October 2023 which scored 10 major foundation developers like Google and OpenAI on 100 transparency indicators. The follow up study scored the (initial 10 plus 4 more) developers on the same indicators to understand how the landscape has changed. While observing overall improvement, matters like data access, evaluations of model trustworthiness, and downstream impact remain opaque.
