Shoutout to the Occupational Therapy profession. As a Physician Assistant, I truthfully did not have a great understanding of all that an OT can do. I'm not sure why other than to say -- this is how our healthcare system works. It's siloed for patients and in many ways, it's siloed for the healthcare professionals, too. OTs help people of all ages who have physical, sensory, or cognitive problems and help with barriers that affect a person's emotional, social, and physical needs. They work in many settings including schools, hospitals, mental health facilities, and more. And, in my opinion, they are some of the most holistic minds of the allied health professions. How do I know? There's an amazing group of them in Humans in Healthcare that have shown me. When I needed to talk through some situations I've been navigating with family members, I put out a request to the group and asked if anyone would be willing to listen. And they did. And they helped. And they continue to. Do you know what else OTs are great at? Infusing accessibility into your clinical products by listening to user needs and ensuring it meets their needs in a way that honors their functioning. Because that's what they are trained to do. It would make sense that OTs could use these transferable skills in roles outside of the clinic, too, so don't discount them from non-traditional roles that require active listening and a design element focused on accessibility. And, if you want to join a network full of diverse clinicians eager to make change in creative ways, join Humans in Healthcare. Because healthcare exists in silos, but networks don't have to. Imagine how strong the clinical voice can be, together. Open to anyone in healthcare regardless of credential -- that includes non clinicians who have a vested interest in supporting and amplifying the voice of the clinician or looking to hire or liaise with clinicians. #occupationaltherapy #healthcareprofessionals #healthtech #healthcare
