Soul in the Stomach: A Culinary Journey of Friendship Growing up for a small period at Aden, just a stone's throw from Ahmad's tiny wood-fired bakery, my childhood was a delightful mix of adventure and digestive drama. Ms. Aloka De, my favorite English teacher, always said I had a "soul in my stomach" – a phrase that was part literary metaphor, part culinary critique. Those childhood food adventures were just the appetizer. As I stepped into professional life, I discovered that my "stomach soul" was more than a childhood quirk – it was a universal language of connection. Enter my professional soulmates: Vimal Bajpai ji, Mahalingam ji, Mihir, Kannan and Vikram We didn't just work together to build India’s largest electronic manufacturing ecosystem; we broke bread together. Our deepest conversations happened not in boardrooms, but around dining tables, sharing meals that spoke volumes beyond any PowerPoint presentation. With Vimal Bajpai ji, it was the subtle art of sharing a perfectly brewed chai and samosa at Lucknow that revealed layers of wisdom. Mahalingam ji's home food delicacies became the backdrop to our most strategic discussions. Mihir could turn a simple lunch break into a culinary storytelling session. Kannan's love for regional cuisines at Chennai and Bengaluru was a gateway to building Sriperumbudur plant and Samsung Opera House at Bengaluru. And Vikram? He could find the most unexpected food gems in any city - CCD or Barista! 😃 Our stomachs were not just digestive organs; they were diplomatic pouches, carrying trust, understanding, and friendship. We discovered each other not through professional credentials, but through the shared joy of a meal, the laughter between bites, the stories seasoned with spice and camaraderie. Little did we know that these culinary connections would forge friendships stronger than any professional network. Our souls, it seemed, had always been more comfortable communicating through flavor than through formal introductions. From Ahmad's wood-fired bakery to boardroom lunch tables, my journey proved one thing: the most genuine connections are often made not by what we say, but by what we share on our plates. Do you have such professional “soul in the stomach”colleagues who have turned into lifelong friends? Do share about them. #ProfessionalFriendships #Foodie #ConnectionThroughCuisine

“Mere mei aur Mukesh Ambani mei koi farak hai ke?” My friend Ramlal once said this with a straight face, and then explained: “Woh bhi experience kharidta hai, aur mai bhi.” At first, I thought he was joking. But as he went on, his perspective intrigued me. For Ramlal: • Dining at Radheshyam Kachoriwala feels as exclusive as a five-star hotel. Why? Because the owner gives him special treatment with extra chutney. • Traveling by local train is his version of an adventure. The ‘local massage’ and the adrenaline rush during peak hours are experiences he genuinely enjoys. In his eyes, he’s buying experiences, just like Mukesh Ambani. The scale may be different, but the essence, he believes, is the same. Ramlal’s approach challenges the idea that wealth defines the quality of experiences. Instead, he sees joy in everyday moments and privileges that many might overlook. But is he correct? Does perspective truly level the playing field between the wealthy and the less fortunate? What do you think about Ramlal’s approach? Is it a mindset worth adopting, or does financial freedom expand the range of experiences in a way that mindset alone cannot? #LifeLessons #PerspectiveMatters #ExperiencesOverPossessions

Very rarely comes something that touches your heart. My visit to Ishara, a restaurant in Lucknow really made me enter a world I had never personally experienced. The reason why I loved every second I spent is because the entire staff at Ishara is comprised of deaf and mute people. They’ve been trained to take their orders using sign language and gestures. A first time customer definitely feels weird in the beginning but starts loving it gradually. The staff is extremely well mannered and efficient. The experience they provide while lunching or dining is superlative. It’s also a sneak peek into the world of deaf and mute people. It makes people more empathetic toward disabled people who are working hard to earn their living and keep their head held high. Unfortunately in a backward society like what India has, disabled people never get the kind of respect they deserve. They are mocked at, humiliated, assaulted, betrayed and subjected to all kind of inhumane treatment. I’ve personally seen a lot of it over a decade or so. What’s also sad is that inspite of so called hoopla around empowering disabled people there are very few companies that actually have a policy of employing disabled people. When I joined SAP Labs India , the first thing that impresses me was the fact that the company actually hired disabled individuals and made them work shoulder to shoulder with other employees. They were never treated differently and were considered equal to other employees. As a result of that they constantly delivered. I am really proud to have worked with such a company. After many years I saw the same with Ishara. It felt so great to see the pride in the eyes of Ishara’s employees and it’s a great gesture of creating a safe space for disabled people to work and make an honest day’s living. If you’re in Lucknow per chance then I’d request you to have at least one meal at Ishara. I am cent percent sure that along with enjoying the sumptuous food you will feel real good and come out as a changed person 🙏🏻 #business #leadership #jobs #careers #empathy #entrepreneurship #startups #technology #india #politics LUCKNOW Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow

What does true hospitality look like when the going gets tough? In a world where customer service is often tossed aside for profit margins, an absolutely heartwarming moment from the Taj Hotel in Chennai is capturing attention and giving us all the feels. Picture this: amidst some pretty serious flooding, a guest named D Prasanth Nair experienced an unexpected wave of kindness. Even though the hotel could’ve easily charged him for a night he didn’t use, they decided to waive the fees instead! Now that’s what I call true hospitality! People on the internet are absolutely buzzing about this gesture, sharing their own stories that highlight the spirit of excellent service. It’s like a thread of connection across distances! From ironed shirts getting delivered to homes like a superhero in disguise, to the meticulous care provided to injured guests in London - these tales show that when it comes to service, the sky's the limit! This isn’t just about great service, though. It’s a living tribute to Ratan Tata’s remarkable legacy. Talk about a beautiful blend of empathy coupled with sharp business sense! So, what do you think? How can we continue to weave those customer-first values into the very fabric of our businesses? #CustomerServiceExcellence #HospitalityIndustry #EmpathyInBusiness #RatanTata #TajHotel #TrueHospitality #CustomerFirst #BusinessWithHeart #FloodRelief #Kindnes Have you ever experienced a moment of unexpected kindness that left a lasting impression? Share your story in the comments! Let's celebrate those incredible gestures that remind us of the true spirit of hospitality.

The Indian coffee market is on track to reach ₹20,100 crore by 2030 and The average Indian drinks around 30 cups of coffee a year, while globally, that number sits at 200 cups per person. But change is brewing. For the longest time, chai has been the go-to drink in India, but coffee is quietly making its mark and it’s not so quiet anymore. Ten years ago, coffee choices were pretty basic: A ₹2 Nescafe at home Or Shelling out ₹300 at Starbucks or Cafe Coffee Day. Today, it’s a whole different game with plenty of exciting options: -> Sleepy Owl Coffee : A brand known for its cold brew and ready-to-drink coffee options, making high-quality coffee accessible at home. -> Third Wave Coffee: Started in Bangalore, now serving 118+ locations across the country. -> Nothing Before Coffee: From Jaipur to 26 cities, with 62 outlets, proving smaller towns are craving premium coffee. With the coffee market expected to grow by 53% in the next five years. The arrival into Delhi is so distinctive, for many reasons, but the one which always strikes (after the infamous airport carpet) is the aroma, which is distinctly Delhi. Mumbai is different, Cochin is different, which got me thinking, can the character of a city be determined by it's aroma? https://lnkd.in/g5yFjYq
