We recently joined water industry experts at Ozwater’24, to explore the role of water resources in addressing the climate crisis. AWP sponsored the Australian Water Association’s international development stream ‘Building climate-resilient water sectors through international partnerships’ supporting exchange on the collective responsibility in tackling water challenges. In this stream, representatives from Australia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific gathered to discuss the role of water associations in dealing with climate challenges and explore innovative strategies for building a sustainable future. Key highlights include: 🔹 The need for integrated water resource management, focusing on climate variability and an independent oversight body for increased accountability. 🔹 The discussions stressed the importance of cultural sensitivity, diverse perspectives and respect in international partnerships. 🔹 Water is a “connector”, and interdependencies between climate and water must be taken into account when developing strategies for a climate-resilient future. 🔹 Non-revenue water reduction is needed for improved financial sustainability and water security. 🔹 Twinning partnerships offer a two-way learning street, where engagements necessitate openness to listen, learn from each other and cooperate on co-designing activities addressing climate challenges. Our new land use report with Zoological Society of London (ZSL) is published today📃📣 It shows that reorganising land use in the UK to secure a sustainable future will require coordinated action and systems level changes with profound ramifications for food, energy production and housing development. Nathalie Pettorelli, the lead author of the report said: “With the upcoming UK general election, the incoming Government has the opportunity to reshape land use and introduce the transformational changes needed to meet our national and international commitments on both nature recovery and climate change mitigation and adaptation.” Bridget Emmett, BES President added: “In the face of the climate and nature crises it is absolutely essential that nature is a key part of any land use policy. Nature is not, and cannot be seen as, a ‘nice to have’, it is absolutely essential. “To achieve the difficult balance of competing land use needs, an integrative approach must be taken with leadership from UK governments and collaboration between departments and devolved nations.” You can read the full report here👇 https://lnkd.in/enjHH-ya

“Preferences change. Climate policy prescriptions don’t.” — Katya Rhodes TL;DR: • B.C. can achieve emission reductions by either: raising carbon taxes or implementing stricter, flexible regulations (e.g., zero-emission vehicle mandates, low-carbon fuels). Both options allow for consumer choice while targeting emissions. • B.C.’s flexible regulations have been effective in reducing emissions without mandating specific technologies, making climate action feasible. • With growing concerns over the economy, housing, and healthcare, maintaining strong climate policies is essential to managing these broader issues. #ClimatePolicy #BCpoli #ProjectDelivery #StrategicAlignment #Leadership #WorkSafeBC
