The familiarity of nine-to-five workdays, knife and fork meals, and a full night’s sleep, are all distant memories. Instead, life onboard is distilled to the essentials: sleep is a fleeting recharge, food is consumed as fuel, and sail repairs are part of the routine. ✨ Shifting Gears: A New Chapter in Commercial Real Estate ✨ Starting a new career in midlife feels like lining up on the grid for a race I’ve never driven before—equal parts excitement and nerves. As I take this leap into commercial real estate, I’m inspired by a quote from Toto Wolff, Team Principal of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team. After a challenging race, he told Lewis Hamilton: “If we cannot win, we truly hope you do.” These words remind me of the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and celebrating each other’s victories, both on and off the track. This transition is all about pushing myself out of the pit lane and accelerating toward new goals. Like any race, it’s about staying focused, navigating sharp turns, and trusting the people in your corner. I’m incredibly grateful for my pit crew—mentors, colleagues, friends, and family—who continue to cheer me on and share their expertise. Your encouragement fuels my drive and keeps me steady, even when the track gets bumpy. As we approach 2025, I’m looking forward to closing deals, building partnerships, and celebrating wins with all of you. I truly hope we can cross many finish lines together this year, whether it’s through shared successes, learning experiences, or simply cheering each other on. This journey has required me to shift gears and embrace vulnerability—it’s not easy to reinvent yourself. But every experience I’ve had has prepared me for this race. 🐲 Our dbDragons made waves at the Stanley Dragon Boat International Championship in Hong Kong last week! 🛶🌊 Our dragon boat team gave their all against a competitive field of teams in Hong Kong’s 270-meter Dragon Boat race, finishing with the Gold Bowl Merit trophy. Cheered on by thousands along the shore of Stanley Beach, the motley crew came together from across divisions, and showcased what teamwork and dedication can achieve. Come rain or shine, no matter how choppy the waters were, they trained together on the southern tip of Hong Kong Island every weekend in the months leading up to the competition. Working in sync towards a shared goal are qualities mirrored by our colleagues both on the water and at work. Here’s what some of the crew had to say about their experience: 🗨️ “To be successful you really must be synchronised and in pace. Through dragon boating I’ve learned how to be more agile in how you communicate with people from across the bank,” says Sylvia Oh from DWS. 🗨️ “You can’t just paddle faster than the rest of the team and become first. You have to work with the rest of the team to achieve the common goal,” says Mathew George from our Compliance team. 🗨️ “The weather might not be great, conditions might not be perfect, but you have to be persistent, work hard, and be deeply dedicated,” says Megan Kwong from the Investment Bank team.
