Survey Systems, Inc. | Line of Site | By utilizing publicly available LiDar, with plans of a building under construction, Survey Systems (SSI) was able to demonstrate “line-of-site” between buildings. To process this information, SSI utilized AutoCAD Civil 3D software, existing LiDar data, and building height and dimensions from plans provided by client. The animation shows how this information was interpolated by Survey Systems.

Scanning and Modeling Excellence for Industrial Hyper-Intelligent Building™ Projects! 🏗️ We’ve completed a scan of over 7,000 sq. ft. in Cambridge using Terrestrial LiDAR to create a comprehensive building model in Autodesk Revit. The scope of work (SOW) included: #Architectural: Sound walls, openings, ceiling/floor level changes, stairs, and railings. #Structural: Visible columns, joists, and beams. #Plumbing: Interfering pipes. #Electrical: Panels, switchboards, and elements protruding into cells. #Mechanical: Press columns, die clampers, and other mechanical slide posts. By utilizing #RTC360 and LiDAR, we ensure precise and accurate scans for seamless integration into building models. #Planit #ScanToBIM #3DScanning

This was an interesting task that took a few days… and many hours to get done. We only had 60% design drawings and not that much time to ask questions, but we got to work. The end goal: model the job from 2D drawings, throw the job into twinmotion, then create renderings for a presentation. Once the task was done and turned over, I figured why not take it the extra mile and overlay it on the flight I had just done a few days back. Export an .ifc and import into Drone Deploy. Showing my dad what the survey world looks like now, and the latest tools we use for utility documentation - measuring a rainwater chamber with IMU-enhanced GNSS and mobile phone-based photogrammetry. Technology has moved on a little since the 1970s, when he used a theodolite and optical ranging to survey in the British Army, while the principles remain the same. Here we create a 3D model from coded GNSS points and linework from the Trimble Inc. R12i, then measured the same with Pix4D Catch with #viDoc rover RTK. Traditional GNSS - site time 2m 30s, model production 5 minutes. Photogrammetry - site time 1m 30s, automated processing to 3D outputs. The pointcloud (photogrammetry) and 3D model (traditional GNSS) are shown in AutoCAD Civil 3D. The model is both incomplete (as a simple demonstration) and overly detailed (to show possibilities). Nice to compare eras and methods, and I've a lot of respect for those who surveyed the hard way. #surveying #vermessung #technology #realitycapture #pointcloud #civil3D #autodesk #gnss #rtk #photogrammetry #iOS #3D #pix4dcatch #utilitydocumentation

One of the great new features of C3D 2025. Level of detail on surfaces, not the entire drawing. Super helpful when dealing with that one big lidar or photogrammetry surface.

Tomorrow at 10 I'm running a webinar on Forma and Revit. I'll show you how to start a project in Forma, do a bit of mass modelling, analyse the site and then puch it to Revit (a coordinated site model with a Toposolid (from LIDAR data), aerial imagary (fromBing maps) and buildings and roads (from Open Streetmap). It should be fun... #Autodesk #Forma #Revit #Graitec #GraitecUK #Webinar #OpenStreetmap #BingMaps #LIDAR #INSPIRE

The quality of your work done by the surveyor in both mission planning and in flight impacts everything from high-resolution images to mosaics, point clouds, design surfaces, and 3D modeling. To achieve the best results, start with precise control point establishment and leverage the right coordinate system both vertical and horizontal. Task :Rapid Static Observation Key Steps: Coordinate Systems 🌍: Used ITRF2014 for global consistency and precise vertical accuracy. Stability & Accessibility 🛡️: Ensure control points are stable and easy to access. Data Collection 🕒: Log GPS data for 30 minutes to 2 hours for high accuracy. Verification 🔍: Compare with benchmarks and adjust if needed. Why It Matters: Mapping & Surveying: Provides reliable references. Construction: Ensures structures align correctly. Legal Boundaries: Defines property lines accurately. How do you ensure accuracy in your drone surveys? What systems do you use? Share your experiences!

Operators can now view 3D models in a real-world environment at a true-life scale, in the context of existing surroundings. On the Trimble Earthworks Grade Control Platform display, the model is overlaid onto existing ground giving the operator a better understanding of the work that needs to be done. Visibility of the bucket gives operators better situational awareness to be able to keep surrounding people and objects safer. Users can easily understand 3D models, cut/fill information, slope data and other bench points and reference points in context, without the need to interpret complex 2D plans or stakes. #augmentedreality #mixedreality #AR #construction #constructiontech
