🚀 Is Hiring for Talent and Potential the Way Forward? 🚀 Lately, I've been thinking about the whole idea of the "perfect fit" in hiring. In finance, we're often on the lookout for candidates who tick all the boxes. But maybe, just maybe, we should shift our focus a bit. There's something to be said for hiring people with raw talent and genuine passion. They bring fresh perspectives and energy, sparking innovation and driving the team forward in unexpected ways. What if we started hiring for potential? These are the people who might not have every qualification yet but are eager to learn and grow. Investing in their development could mean big returns for the company down the line. When you build a team based on diverse talents and potential, you get adaptability and resilience. It’s exciting to see how different strengths come together to create something greater. Personally, I always try to share this perspective with my clients. It's not about finding someone who ticks every box but about recognizing and nurturing potential. Every time I see it in action, it reinforces my belief in this approach. Just some food for thought. Have you seen the impact of hiring for talent and potential in your organization? Would love to hear your experiences! #TalentAcquisition #HiringStrategy #CareerGrowth #TeamBuilding #Recruitment #FinanceIndustry #Luxembourg

How You Do Anything is How You Do Everything I am a BIG fan of this saying. I was talking to a client this morning about a new hiring need. Interestingly though, they have two people internally who have applied, but deep down they know neither are right - even though they are nice people and capable. This is a more senior role that sets the tone and innovation for commercial finance. How these two people have approached other tasks in their current roles tells this hiring manager that they are not quite right. Interesting.

Rethink Hiring: Are We Asking for Unicorns? Here's a wake-up call! The 2024 hiring trends are...interesting. - Project Manager needing Digital Marketing expertise? - Operations Manager (Corporate) with Education sector experience? - Strategy Manager requiring Financial Modeling skills? - Relationship Manager with specialization in Marketing? These are just a few examples of job descriptions asking for a single person to be a master of everything. Are job requirements really in sync with the realistic talent pool lately? Are current expectations feasible, or are they setting the stage for missed opportunities in hiring? Now here's the PROBLEM: - Unrealistic expectations discourage great candidates. - It wastes everyone's time: yours, recruiters', and the company's. - When you can't find this mythical unicorn, you settle for a less qualified candidate. The solution? Focus on what matters! Hire people who excel in their specific domain. You can always develop additional skills later. Dear Corporate, Let's please move towards smarter hiring practices that benefit both companies and candidates. I encourage us to share perspectives on how companies, from startups to large-scale operations, can recalibrate their hiring strategies to focus on the core skills and potential for growth. How can we ensure that we're not only attracting but also nurturing the right talent for the right roles? How can we better align our expectations with the market to foster a more inclusive, realistic, and productive hiring environment? #stoptheunicornhunt #hireforskills #recruitment #hiring #talentacquisition #jobsearch #careeropportunities #jobhunt

Hiring for Potential, Not Perfection The ideal candidate isn’t always the one who checks all the boxes. Sometimes, the person who doesn’t “fit” perfectly can be the best choice. By hiring someone eager to learn, we create the opportunity to shape them according to the company’s needs, fostering mutual growth. Investing in people means building a team that’s aligned with our culture and goals. As that employee grows with the company, they bring even more value to the team and the business. 💡 Hiring isn’t just about filling a position; it’s about investing in potential! #Growth #StrongTeam #PersonalDevelopment #SmartHiring

As we transition into Autumn and out of the summer, we’re preparing for a growth in the hiring season of the year. 🤝 Why is Autumn usually such a critical time for hiring? 🤔 Strategic Planning: Many companies tend to organise their budgets and strategies for the upcoming year. Project Kick-Offs: With Q4 around the corner, there tends to be an increase in project initiations, requiring specialised expertise and interim support. End-of-Year Push: Companies will be (or at least be!) focussed on meeting their annual targets, leading to increased demand for skilled professionals. Whether you’re a company looking to strengthen your team before year-end or a professional seeking your next big opportunity, now is a good time to start your processes. Here’s to a successful and fruitful Autumn! 🍁 #Recruitment #EndOfSummer #AutumnHiring #TalentAcquisition #BusinessGrowth

Hiring Insight This week, I was struck by a conversation I had with a Controller seeking a new job opportunity. He shared that when he was hiring for his team, he was juggling his role responsibilities and managing being short-handed. Because of this, his focus was solely on finding the right hire, leaving little room to deeper involvement in the hiring process. Now that he is job searching, he realizes the deep value that communication plays in the hiring process. He said that the next time he is able to hire, he will make sure that candidates receive timely feedback throughout each step of the process. #hiring #communication #feedback

When it comes to hiring team members, one of the biggest questions that come up is: “How can I afford the help I need?”🤔 It almost always feels like a stretch when hiring - whether it’s your first VA or an OBM to run your business. You can look at hiring one of two ways: 💸As an expense OR 💹 As an investment When you look at hiring as an expense, you can see how much they are costing you. All you can see is the amount of money that is now going out the door each month, and every time you delegate or bring a new person on board, it feels like you are ‘losing money. This is the wrong way to look at hiring. Instead, we want to look at hiring as an investment. We want to look at it through the lens of ‘how does this team member bring more money into the business? Because every person on your team should allow the company to make more money in their own way. #investment #OBM #hiring

4moHiring managers hire for both reasons (talent/potential and perfect ground). Although how each hiring manager defines both reasons may vary. They hire with logic (perfect ground) and emotions (talent and potential) too. Hiring for a sole reason may or may not always be favorable especially in varying roles. A little bit here and there should form basis for hiring candidates for a role. Matteo MASIERO
