We’re fortunate to have Dr. Padmaja Patel leading our budding partnership with lifestyle medicine, including lots of activity at #LM2023 this week. In this article, Dr. Patel notes that unlinking patient reimbursement from specific prescriptions and procedures won’t be enough to unleash the life-changing power of lifestyle medicine. For all the benefits of value-based care, the government still penalizes physicians who are overly focused on reversing chronic disease in a patient. Improving quality scores requires managing patients with medication. “It may seem easier to measure success by focusing on the process of prescribing a pill for every ill. But it should be no more difficult to measure patient outcomes. The proof is right there in front of us — in cholesterol lab work, blood sugar readings and spirometer results.” Read more from Dr. Patel: https://lnkd.in/gJd-PeKD

Thrilled to share that Christie Morrison, one of our Lead Advanced Practice Provider at Oshi Health, participated in a dynamic panel discussion at the Florida Association of Counties Conference (FAC) on June 27th! Christie joined an esteemed group of panelists to discuss the latest advancements in weight management, emphasizing the effectiveness of GLP-1s, and the necessity of a multifaceted approach, addressing components such as digestive health impact. Panelists included: - Dr. Lee Washington, Moderator, Sr. Medical Director, Aetna National Accounts - Michele Polgar, Executive Director, PBM Client Solutions and Commercialization, CVS Health - Jenn Roberts, VP Employer Health Strategy, Hello Heart - Christie Morrison, Lead Advanced Practice Provider, Oshi Health - Dr. Salvatore Docimo, Jr., DO, MS, General Surgeon, Bariatric Endoscopy It’s no secret that GLP-1s significantly impact our digestive health, leading to significant side effects and necessitating comprehensive GI care to support adherence. Key Takeaways: 🔹Fast access: Quick access to clinical support from a licensed multidisciplinary care team is crucial 🔹Patient time & education: Just like GI itself, GLP-1s are complex. Meaningful clinical time with patients is required to get to the root of side effects and any existing comorbidities and to educate patients on a path forward to ensure the effectiveness of GLP-1s. 🔹Longitudinal support: An effective approach to GLP-1s requires a personalized longitudinal care plan, including dietary and mental health support, for sustainability. 🔹Conservative Treatment: This longitudinal care plan should be conservative, leading with lifestyle modifications to avoid costly escalations. The Panel’s insights on integrating a comprehensive approach to weight management are invaluable for employers seeking optimal, cost-effective benefit decisions for their employees and their families. Kudos to Christie and the entire panel for an enlightening session! 🎉 #OshiHealth #FACConference #WeightManagement #GLP1 #GIHealth

🚨Specialty Rx is not enough.🚨 🤔 Can Rx like Humira make a positive difference to members? ✅ Yes! (And we are here for it!) But... 😐 Specialty Rx like Humira costs a pretty penny. 😑 Specialty Rx like Humira may not be super effective. 😐 Specialty Rx like Humira may work but then stop working. 😣 Specialty Rx like Humira can be really, really hard on the body. ➡️ Do you agree that plan members need more and better? ➡️ Do you have a plan when these member's medication stops working? ➡️ Do you have a plan to reduce their need for these drugs in the first place? 🌟 Amazing things about lifestyle medicine: 🌟 💡It can compliment other effective treatments 💡It can reduce the need for harsh, expensive interventions 💡It puts the member back in the driver's seat of their own care 💡It gives members options when other treatments stop working 💡It does not make the member risk nasty, damaging side effects 💡In fact, it does the opposite and helps them feel freaking awesome 👆We are not against Specialty Rx, which is valuable and important. 👇We are against Specialty Rx as the only treatment for complex disease. ❤️ People deserve better, and we are going to make sure they get it. 🚀 Who's with us? 🔎 Learn more about Adyptation and our total solution at https://lnkd.in/gPy_Z33D ***Humira side effects list from Mayo Clinic: https://lnkd.in/gJf8PxAd #benefits #lifestylemedicine #specialtypharmacy

If there were a way to lessen the side effects from the column on the left, while ultimately leading that person (a member on YOUR plan, that YOU are paying for) down the path of remission, would you offer that to them?? Specialty medications exist for a reason, but there are ways to reduce the need for/ dosage of these medications. While this may not result in an immediate ROI, it will absolutely impact the health of your population over time. Curious? Reach out to me at jack@adyptation.com to learn more!

Innovating healthcare | Deprescribing expert | Retraining brains w/the sense of smell | Neurodiversity = Neurospicy | Paving the way | Educator
good morning & thank you for the chance to share this with you! and I ask you to pause and consider the following to see if you can 'see or hear' yourself in one of my client's words: This individual lives with an autoimmune disease that wasn't diagnosed until she had been taking a very potent medication for restless leg. After several years of being on this med, she started to develop other symptoms. The common thinking is to see this experience, even though unfortunate, simply a part of life, getting older, etc. Tests were conducted which concluded with autoimmune ... Yesterday, she informed me that she also has an overactive bladder in her mid-forties. First of all, in children this is called bedwetting, in adults it's known as OAB. I've worked with children that did not wet the bed yet couldn't control their bladder at certain points in the day ... Bedwettng / OAB is not age related. It's brain related ... meaning there is a neurochemistry to the condition. Restless leg also originates in the brain and medically linked to dopamine, although it does involve other brain chemicals including acetylcholine. Both, as do all brain chemicals, have dual purposes. Dopamine is the target of treatment for this client. The very same cell receptors being controlled by the medication also have roles with the immune system .... hmmmmm The connection is there to set her system up for inflammation and an autoimmune disorder. But her story doesn't stop there because like the last client I shared about, this person is done 'plugging holes' with one more remedy to ease a symptom. She's choosing to integrate essential oils to help her transition off her medication and assist her system with stabilizing itself. This morning she messaged me to say she's excited and nervous about no longer being on the medication. This is a common thought for many people and equally understandable. However, whenever you become sick of being plagued with symptom after symptom and want to 'see a different movie' play out for the time you have left in this world ... you are declaring an end to a spiritual crisis. I come from pharmacology so this isn't a dig. Yet, the current context with healthcare keeps you stuck in the development of problems even though very few want to admit to. Medications are SO specific in their influence on the body that they're essentially creating a division within the system. Quality health is interdependence, not independence and this is where oils come in when used while taking medications. I must state that this woman wants to come off her medication. This doesn't have to be the case for everyone. In her situation, restless leg is easily assisted with oils to the degree that it naturally resolves itself. And this is what I am talking about this afternoon at 4p eastern. How essential oils enhance the healthcare puzzle ... and when they don't! #innovationinhealthcare #functionalmedicine #integrativemedicine https://fb.me/e/7igKFYEoQ
