𝗣𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘃𝘀 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 🚜 | The use of our spading machines is crucial to improve soil quality and to increase productivity. An Imants spading machine can make the soil ready for sowing or planting in one operation. This saves time, money and improves soil structure. Thanks to the spading machine's good mixing and the absence of the hard pan, the soil is effectively mixed. The result? A better soil structure, more oxygen and better drainage. 💦

Interesting article, that explores the decline in 2Q lumber earnings, driven by an excess in supply due to overcapacity installed in recent years. Despite hopes for a housing market recovery, demand stagnated, with high interest rates slowing construction. This mismatch between supply and demand led to price drops, especially for Southern Yellow Pine, and forced mill closures and curtailments. As a result, producers are grappling with excess inventory and reduced revenues, signaling a need for cost management and strategic adjustments. For more details, visit https://lnkd.in/dY-5uP9C

South African sawmills have not been immune to the impacts of power supply disruptions. The following, sourced from the Intermill Comparison a quarterly survey of structural sawmills, is worth noting. When comparing the cost items of the average cost of production (incl. overheads) of softwood structural sawn timber for 2018 to those of 2023, the increase in the proportion of ‘Power and water’, which made up 3.8% in 2018 compared to 5.2% in 2023 and in Rand terms almost doubled from R113/m³ to R206/m³. This equates to an annual escalation of 12.8% over the five years. The sawlog cost still constitutes the highest cost item whilst the average total production cost (incl. overheads) increased from R2,994/m³ in 2018 to R3,946/m³ in 2023.

In the early hours of March 26, 2024, the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, MD was struck by a cargo ship and collapsed, blocking boat access to the Port of Baltimore. It is currently unknown how long the blockage will last and the severity of the situation for industries reliant on the port. With over $80 billion in import traffic just last year, the Port of Baltimore is one of the largest on the East Coast. It ranks 29th in the U.S. for export of ag products and 6th in fertilizer imports. In 2023, this port was the top U.S. port for automobiles, farming and construction machinery, and imported gypsum, a mineral commonly used in fertilizer and construction material, according to the port. Understanding #GrainStorage: Bin vs. Silo 🌾 In the world of agriculture and food production, good grain storage is crucial. Two common structures used for this purpose are bins and silos. And while they might seem similar, there are key differences between the two. 🔍 Grain Bin: A grain bin, also known as a grain hopper, is a cylindrical structure typically made of metal or sometimes concrete. These bins are designed to store grain in bulk quantities on farms or other key locations like ports. Grain bins are often used for temporary storage or for holding smaller batches of grain. 🌾 Grain Silo: Grain silos are all about long-term storage. They're also usually constructed from concrete or steel, and can vary significantly in size, ranging from small on-farm silos to massive industrial silos seen in grain processing facilities. Unlike bins, silos are equipped with mechanisms for loading and unloading grain efficiently. TIMBER HARVESTING July/August 2024 Loggers Adapting To Changing Industry Results from the 2024 Timber Harvesting Logger Survey show an industry undergoing wrenching change around the country. In addition to the challenges of operating highly capitalized businesses in mostly rural areas, many with relatively shallow labor pools, and in an environment of rising costs for all business inputs, loggers are also grappling with a major shift in pulp-paper markets that are throwing the standard contractor’s business dynamics seriously out of whack. 📍 READ MORE: https://lnkd.in/erUHVmwK

Here's a question to tax the grey matter. If keeping 'a succession of liquid wastes' in a Net Silo tank on a MPP deployment would be deemed as requiring a 'site based' permit. Why doesn't deploying the same area of land for 'a succession of liquid wastes also not require a 'site based' permit? And, if the MPP deployment doesn't, then why does a Net Silo tank? https://lnkd.in/eMcaC6DU
