Whether or not TikTok ends up getting banned, artists should still take advantage of the platform to capture new audiences. Exhibit A: This artist (@claireboyermusic) uploaded a video of herself harmonizing to her kitchen fan. Result as of this writing: 18 million views, 3.8 million likes, 400.5k saves, and 55.9k shares, 18.6k comments Why it worked: The sound (audio on tiktok is called a sound) really resonated with people and they started using it in their own videos. It captured a feeling of grief or longing to viewers and they used it to help express their own feelings. This helped it gain viral traction on the platform, thereby exposing millions of people to Claire and her music page through the original sound. What she did next: Claire took the sound which seemed originally not to be intended for anything and started making it into an actual song. The next two videos showing the work-in-progress version of the song are receiving millions of views as well. All of her previous videos exploded to tens of thousands of views. It will be interesting to see if she can do anything with the attention on her now but at the very least it should be a wake up call to anyone trying to create anything. Audiences are out there. You just need to find a way to get their attention. https://lnkd.in/gRan8MwR

What to do if TikTok is banned? Where do I do I go? Don’t worry, here’s a plan. First, make sure to save your favorite content and repurpose it with small edits - they can go viral on other platform with simple changes. Second, start building your audience on similar platforms like Instagram Reels, Youtube Shorts, Snapchat Spotlight, and Triller. These offer the same formats, great discoverability, and even monetization. Third, try new social video apps like Clapper, Lemon8, or Neptune. These platforms are a great opportunity to grow a massive following quickly. And finally, don’t panic! See this as a chance to become the next big star on a different platform. The time is ripe for creators to let fans know the value of connecting directly & the risks of relying on platforms that could disappear or change their algorithm overnight. This is what every artist should do right now: 1) Open TikTok 2) Add a sign-up form to your profile 3) Add a message in bio asking fans to join 4) Post about the need to connect directly Email, SMS, community - I don't care. Just do it. While you're at it, repeat this everywhere. Instagram Youtube Twitter Speak from the heart, letting fans know the value in connecting directly & the challenges you face relying on platforms that serve content, not creators. They will respond. At least the ones that care. We've seen it overwhelmingly the last 6 months. Even if TikTok isn't banned, take this to heart. Own the relationships with your fans. --- PS: I'll take my own advice & ask you to "move off platform" & subscribe to Where Music's Going: https://lnkd.in/g9ufYPv8

TikTok is back. Yay, let's celebrate. However, I think this is a good opportunity to add membership community. Free, paid or tier. It doesn't matter. The last 24 hours has been an example how your hard work in your music or creative brand can dissipate overnight. They most important thing is to control and own your traffic. Create a hub where you and your supporters can connect directly. To start off you can use platforms like Circle, Kajabi or any other out there. However, ultimately you want transition that to something you own. Let's not be a victim or mercy to platforms. #musicbusiness #communitymarketing #musiclicensing #musicproduction

YouTube has published an overview of the top trends, creators and songs in the app over the past year What stood out to me more than anything is my hunch that if you showed the top creators list to most marketers they would probably not know most if not all names outside of Mr. Beast Why is that? Because the faces that dominate social media are not the household name actors and artists, but creators who you would never think have millions and millions of fans. There are more creators with seven figure followings than ever before and they have an insane amount of influence. I can tell you how many agency pitches I’ve been in where celebrity talent is reviewed and graded on how much of a household name they are. We have to completely revisit how we think about “celebrities” and their recognizability to the average marketer. #socialmedia #influencermarketing #creatoreconomy
