This document walks you through the submissions process and outlines the steps to submit a complete application for the Challenge. The deadline for submissions is April 3rd, 2024. Unlike operational carbon emissions, which can be reduced over time with building energy efficiency renovations and renewable energy, embodied carbon emissions from building materials have irreversibly entered the atmosphere as soon as a building is built. That means the upfront building material choices are critically impactful. And as new construction operations become more efficient, embodied carbon impacts become even more significant. In recent years, there has been a growing trend towards integrating renewable energy sources into various building types, including mixed-use developments. With the pressing need to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate climate change, harnessing renewable energy within mixed-use buildings presents a significant opportunity to promote sustainability and energy efficiency. However, this endeavor is not without its challenges. In this blog post, we will explore the opportunities and challenges associated with integrating renewable energy in mixed-use buildings.

🌍 One of the greatest challenges the construction industry faces today is reducing its environmental impact. 💚 As we as a company work towards sustainable practices, we are embracing renewable energy solutions to help reduce our environmental footprint especially when it comes to the energy to power our compounds - that is still heavily dependent on diesel generators. ☀ We recognise we need to transition to cleaner, more sustainable alternatives and have introduced solar-powered pods at several of our project locations, which use as much renewable energy as possible to power a compound and minimise reliance on diesel fuel. 🙌 We’re pleased to report that the solar powered generators have been hugely successful in significantly reducing our construction site’s pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions associated with diesel generators. As such, we are continuing to roll out the installation of solar power generators on our all our major civils projects in collaboration with clients, who are equally invested in building modern communities whilst driving sustainable construction practices. #renewableenergy #sustainable #environment #solarpower
