Good piece on the challenges posed by "Space warfare". With unclear bondaries between civilian & military and ambiguous rules of engagement, Space has become a "gray zone" that calls for different approaches than other domains. This shift from conventional war is clearly a challenge for armed forces, that will need to adapt and bend their traditional approaches to counter hostile competition. Fascinating, and a wake-up call for Space Forces to rethink doctrines accordingly. https://lnkd.in/ea8gQ59b #greyzone #spacebattles #spaceforce

Exciting times at Starburst - stay tuned for the next chapter of our adventures ! #space #defense #aviation #innovation #technology #investment #accelerator
Invest in the Courageous for a Greener and Safer World | Entrepreneur | Accelerator | Venture Capital | Triathlete
When I first launched Starburst Aerospace in 2012, it was predominantly an aerospace company. There was a narrow definition of A&D and its umbrella of technologies… unlike today. As the landscape of technological innovation has evolved at an unprecedented pace, so too has our approach as a company. With an unwavering commitment to our mission of building a safer, greener, and more connected world, I’m proud to announce a major milestone: We are adapting our company’s name – from “Starburst Aerospace” to simply “Starburst”. By foregoing “Aerospace” from our name, we embrace a broader identity: one that better reflects the work we’re doing, the partners we’re working with, and the broader startup technologies we’re helping launch and scale. Starburst has been a trusted leader and partner for the A&D sector for over a decade, working with many governments, defense primes, large corporates, startups, universities, investors, and every player in between. Operating through 3 pillars – startup accelerators, strategy consulting, and venture investments – we are continuing to expand and strengthen our global footprint to support the disruptive entrepreneurs that are developing the critical technologies, products, and solutions that address our shared national and economic security interests. We are working with priority technologies that range from AI, Quantum Tech, Biotech, Advanced Materials, and Space Tech, to Robotics and Autonomous Systems, Renewable Energy and Propulsion Tech, and Advanced Manufacturing, among many others. This has included the development of innovation programs that build local innovation ecosystems, such as BLAST with the @French Ministry of Defense, and more recently, as one of NATO’s leading accelerator partners for @DIANA. Our team is honored to help deliver next generation capabilities, by collaborating with leading multinational industry majors including HENSOLDT and Airbus Defence and Space, and work on commercially-focused projects with key global players like Safran. We thank our partners and ecosystem, for being part of our journey as we continue to help shape ecosystem-building in the industry. Happy to share our latest insights on Space and Innovation !
At Starburst Aerospace, innovation is at the heart of our work. At ★ Les Assises du NewSpace - Saison 3 ★ last week, our team debuted an in-depth study of the innovations and technologies that have the potential to shape the future of space exploration and use. We're excited to share our "Innovation Radar", designed to provide a clear and strategic view of this dynamic ecosystem. Key objectives of the report: • Decipher the profusion of initiatives, projects and applications: Our mission is to offer you an overview of the many emerging innovations, identifying those with the potential to transform the space industry. • Assess impact and timeline to understand and prepare: Understanding the timing and impact of new technologies is essential for strategic preparation. We assess how and when these innovations could revolutionize the industry. Our radar focuses primarily on three application areas: 🌐 Infrastructure: Analyzing new technologies that improve space infrastructure, from launchers to space habitats. 🌍 Services for the Earth: Exploration of innovations that have a direct impact on our planet, such as observation satellites and global communication systems. 🛰️ In-Orbit Services: Identifying technological advances for in-orbit operations, including satellite maintenance and autonomous missions. We've also highlighted the main obstacles to large-scale deployment of some of these applications, to provide a complete picture of the challenges to be overcome. Interesting illustration on how commercial companies and military can cooperate to advance dual use. On the electrification - looking forward to see how such cooperation can solve operational challenges, and curious to see how the infrastructural (mainly charging, maintenance) part is approached to validate large scale feasibility and operational deployment. #dualuse #electrification #cooperation #defensetech https://lnkd.in/eUQrgeqv

While the move is mostly driven by the shortage context - it is a great reminder of the untapped potential of re-use and recycling. Re-usability must be considered at the design phase to maximize re-use potential, thus 100% recyclability might not be possible in the coming decade, but could already bring additional flexibility to the tense and complex aviation supply chain. #reuse #spareparts #lifecycle https://lnkd.in/eHbFT5yQ

Excellent read. The proliferation of LEO platforms is pushing the satellite telecommunication industry to move towards highly complex and sophisticated architectures to enable multi-layered networks. In parallel, changing customer needs, in particular for defense customers, are accelerating the move to a services-oriented market, moving away from sheer capacity offerings. While the terminal remains a key blocker of wider adoption, all these market dynamics and promising opportunities are fostering novel co-opetition approaches. As a positive side-effect, innovation is thriving as we see new technologies and value propositions emerging : hosted payloads, integrated multi-orbit services and solutions, etc. Co-opetition has been a transformative force in tech, looking forward to see how it could transform Satellite communications and beyond. #coopetition #satcom #innovation https://lnkd.in/gVC6-UAg

We published a couple of months ago some insights on light aviation electrification. Infrastrcture is one of the key enabler of a massive deployment - comparable to some extent to the EV. Excited to see companies pushing this further to support the deployment of electric aviation at scale ! #electricaviation #aviation #infrastructure

Tech maturation speed is not in line with the ability for armies to "absorb" innovation, and this has been quite true for a while. It is easily explainable by the need to integrate in operations at scale, hence the need for robust and reliable technology that takes time to implement. However, this is also due to the contractual/buying cycle that is preventing armies to dynamically revisit their priorities, espacially for procuring "small" systems. Transforming procurement cycles is a real opportunity to sustain the rapid innovation pace and give the opportunities for the armies to stay at the edge, however it must be balanced with the long-term visibility to help build and reinforce an industrial base. A dual speed system that balances innovation and long term industrial vision could benefit the whole ecosystem to develop and sustain innovation. #innovation #defenseinnovation #defenseindustry https://lnkd.in/eVUMYBAf
