📢 New Article! As we mark #WomensEntrepreneurshipDay under the theme Empowering Dreams, Inspiring Futures, we celebrate women entrepreneurs like Joy Obuya, who turned a gap in Kenya’s fashion industry into NAWIRI - a sustainable brand empowering mothers. Yet, Joy's journey highlights a challenge many African women-owned and led #SMEs (WSMEs) face: accessing financing. Despite owning the majority of SMEs in Africa, women entrepreneurs encounter a $42 billion financing gap. At Open Capital, we’ve supported #2X compliant businesses to raise over $790 million in capital, addressing barriers like collateral requirements and gender-blind financial systems. In this article by Nathalie Gogue Ebo, Crystal Mugimba, Millie Maina, and Shiemaa Ahmed, we’re sharing insights on solutions that include tailored financial products, blended finance incentives, and technical assistance to unlock opportunities for WSMEs. When women entrepreneurs thrive, they not only transform their businesses but also uplift communities and drive inclusive growth. To deepen our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) an MOU was signed on the project Informal to International Initiative in partnership with Jazz, Pakistan Microfinance Investment Company (PMIC), Daraz, MG Apparel, and TCS under the umbrella of the Male Champions of Change. Jazz will be the digital and financial literacy partner for this initiative. The Informal to International (i2i)initiative is all about creating meaningful impact for women entrepreneurs, empowering them to transition from local informal markets to thriving on national and global platforms. Jazz will facilitate designing the curriculum and carry out the trainings for the women entrepreneurs through engaging its trainers. The first phase will empower 150 women entrepreneurs in the district of Bhawalpur and this will then be extended to the other parts of the country. This project seeks to empower women in the informal sector with critical skills in financial literacy, digital literacy, and entrepreneurship, enabling them to transition towards formal and more scalable business opportunities. By investing in these women, we are helping drive inclusive socio-economic growth and fostering a more diverse and thriving future for all. #DEI #DigitalInclusion #FinancialLiteracy

Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: A Pathway to Economic Growth in Afghanistan
Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: A Pathway to Economic Growth in Afghanistan The role of female entrepreneurs in driving economic development is undeniable, yet many women in Afghanistan face significant barriers that hinder their potential. A recent assessment conducted by TAGHEER in Kabul, Balkh, Herat, Bamiyan, Kandahar, and Nangarhar highlights critical challenges and opportunities for enhancing women's contributions to the economy. Many female entrepreneurs possess low levels of literacy and skills, limiting their ability to manage businesses effectively. In sectors such as textile, livestock, fasion, food processing, and agriculture, women see the potential for local manufacturing and production to capture market; however, they struggle with limited access to resources and infrastructure. Compounding these challenges, current economic conditions and regulatory barriers further limit women's access to business licenses and financial support. To empower women entrepreneurs, targeted educational programs focusing on literacy and entrepreneurship are essential for building confidence and capability. Technical and vocational skills providers can play a vital role in this by investing in training initiatives that equip women with essential business skills. Establishing dedicated marketplaces for female-produced goods will promote visibility and sales, while SEED funding providers and other financial institutions can offer the necessary capital to support women-led businesses. Additionally, engaging key players in women-owned businesses can create mentorship opportunities and networks that foster collaboration and success. Empowering women entrepreneurs is crucial for not only their success but also for Afghanistan’s economic recovery and growth. By addressing education gaps, improving market accessibility, and creating a supportive regulatory framework can unleash the full potential of women in business. Let’s work together to create a brighter economic future for all! For comprehensive assessments in research, monitoring and evaluation, capacity building, and third-party monitoring, TAGHEER has the capabilities to support your initiatives. We encourage our clients to reach out to TAGHEER (tagheer.co) for expert guidance and collaboration. #WomenEntrepreneurs #GenderEquality #EconomicGrowth #Afghanistan #Empowerment #SustainableDevelopment #TAGHEER

In a recent feature on KBC,Mrs #Catherine_Kithinji, #Deputy_Director_for_Trade, emphasized the need for stronger #partnerships_between_Public_and_Private institutions to overcome challenges like access to capital and skills. #COMFWB, with support from #COMESA, is leading the charge in facilitating affordable funding, mentorship, and market access to help women-led businesses grow and succeed. 💪🏽👩🏽💼 According to Mrs #Vicky_Karuga - Chairperson and President, #FOWEK & #COMFWB_Kenya_Chapter, #COMFWB is trying to grow a #COMESA_SACCO (Savings and Credit Co-Operative Society) because the financial instruments now are so expensive but if we can have a grassroots #SACCO Movement that is supported by #COMESA, we can start seeing women accessing money/funding that is more affordable. COMFWB will facilitate the entrepreneur's access to funding through its Credit Guarantee Scheme https://lnkd.in/eEu7iUXK COMESA Secretariat The Comesa Federation of Women in Business (COMFWB) Federation of Women Entrepreneurs Kenya (FOWEK)
