The narrative around women's leadership in Ghana is indeed changing, and it's exciting to see successive governments taking intentional steps to promote gender equity.
With Ghana's National Gender Policy in place since 2015, successive governments have reaffirmed their dedication to reducing poverty levels, improving health and living standards, and promoting gender equity. This policy has paved the way for initiatives that address inequalities and provide a framework for women's empowerment.
Personally, I've witnessed the impact of women in leadership firsthand through my work with Global Media Alliance. Under the direct leadership of Emma Wenani, our exceptional Chief Director, I've seen women excel in key roles. Many women at Global Media Alliance have spearheaded numerous successful campaigns and projects, demonstrating the value of women's leadership in driving positive change.
But to build on this momentum, it's essential to:
- Continue to appoint women to key roles and encourage political parties to nominate female candidates.
- Challenge traditional gender roles and stereotypes that prevent women from pursuing leadership positions.
- Offer training, mentorship, and funding to empower women to take on leadership roles.
By working together, we can create a more inclusive and equitable society where women have equal opportunities to lead and participate in decision-making processes.
